SEAdLINNNG 8th Anniversary Show Guide and Preview

By: James Carlin

General Information

August 25th will see SEAdLINNNG’s 8th Anniversary Show taking place from the iconic Korakuen Hall, almost eight years exactly to the day of their first show, Let’s Get Started, which was main evented by founder Nanae Takahashi teaming up with Ayako Hamada against Awesome Kong and Meiko Satomura.

SEAdLINNNG has been one of the dark horse companies in terms of executing fantastic match quality in the independent joshi scene, with Arisa Nakajima and Nanae Takahashi’s hair vs. hair match from 2019 being a good example of what the company can bring to the table. However, since Takahashi left the company at the end of December 2021, shows have been less frequent and the 8th Anniversary Show looks to bring back the charm that had once been present within the last few years prior to Takahashi leaving.

The show can be purchased and watched live through the official website, seadlinnng.com, which also has VOD to be able to watch older events from December 2020 onwards. It’s best to wait until the 1st of the month to buy a subscription because Japanese services will always charge on the first day of the month.

Rundown of the Card

Arisa Nakajima (c) vs. Sareee – Beyond The Sea Championship

Arisa Nakajima is undoubtedly one of the best professional wrestlers in the world right now regardless of gender, and she now sits comfortably on her third reign as Beyond The Sea champion. Whilst she originally beat Ryo Mizunami at the December 29th show in 2021 to become champion, an unfortunate injury meant that she was forced to vacate the belt nearly 300 days into her reign – a run which saw her defend the title against her Best Friends tag team partner Tsukasa Fujimoto in April last year at Ice Ribbon. Hiroyo Matsumoto won the vacant championship in an incredible one-night tournament performance before shortly losing the championship back to a fully-healed Nakajima.

Now with three defences under her belt against Riko Kawahata, Ayasame Sasamura and Itsuki Aoki, Nakajima faces her toughest challenge yet as she now has to keep hold of the championship against Sareee, who recently returned to Japan after leaving WWE. This is the first time that the two have encountered each other in singles action since November 2015 in the now-defunct JWP, and this is their fourth head-to-head against one another.

I would highly recommend watching Arisa Nakajima and Takumi Iroha vs. KAIRI and Sareee from Sareee-ISM Chapter 2, as well as Arisa Nakajima and Itsuki Aoki vs. Riko Kawahata and Sareee from last month’s Shin-Kiba SEAdLINNNG show to get an idea of what to expect for this match.

Rico Kaiju and Ayame Sasamura (c) vs. Natsu Sumire and Maya Yukihi – Beyond The Sea Tag Team Championship

The current Beyond The Sea Tag Team champions were originally part of the evil group Las Fresa de Egoistas (lit. “The Selfish Strawberries”), both joining the unit in May 2021. The two would start teaming as Little Twin Berries in 2021, and challenged ASUKA and Makoto for the tag team championships.

The two would shockingly defeat Las Fresa de Egoistas to end their incredible 546 day run with the tag championships at Shinjuku Pumping back in June, and now the team of Kaiju and Sasamura look to make their first defence against notable freelance talents Natsu Sumire and Maya Yukihi now that they’ve left Las Fresa de Egoistas after pinning the former championships.

This also marks Sasamura’s second reign as tag team champion after she won the titles with Arisa Nakajima back in 2018.

La Pidita vs. Kakeru Sekiguchi

At the beginning of the year, a new masked luchadora appeared in SEAdLINNNG known as La Pidita. She’s a good friend of Kaho Kobayashi but is definitely not Kaho Kobayashi despite Kakeru Sekiguchi trying to prove otherwise with no success – mostly because La Pidita only speaks Spanish, and not Japanese, and is Mexican, and wears a mask.

This match has a special stipulation that states if La Pidita loses, she must unmask but if Sekiguchi loses, she must wear a mask instead.

It’s a face-off that has been building for most of this half of the year, and to keep everything under control in high-speed matches as usual, it’ll be refereed by high-speed legend Natsuki Taiyo, the inaugural and four-time High-Speed Champion under a twenty-minute time limit.

Miyuki Takase and Ryo Mizunami vs. Hiroyo Matsumoto and Yuu

Is MAX VOLTAGE back? Will they do the dance? Who knows – but the former members are teaming up as Ryo Mizunami and Miyuki Takase take on Hiroyo Matsumoto and Yuu.

Matsumoto and Yuu have only been on the same team twice before in SEAdLINNNG, with both times taking place in 2020.

Takase finds herself wrestling with three big powerhouse wrestlers but as a hard-hitting striker, she won’t get lost in the fold and could potentially be the one to get the pinfall with her Kamikaze move.

Las Fresa de Egoistas vs. Itsuki Aoki, Mio Momono and Misa Kagura

Egoistas probably aren’t too happy about losing their tag team championships, and now look to reassert dominance over SEAdLINNNG against former AAAW Champion Mio Momono from Marvelous, JTO’s Misa Kagura, and Itsuki Aoki.

The duo are joined by the legendary Mima Shimoda, who has been part of the unit since its beginnings in 2019.

The trio last teamed at the December 29th Korakuen Hall show last year against Miyuki Takase, Riko Kawahata and and Yumiko Hotta – but can they get another win together at the 8th Anniversary show?
