New Japan Pro-Wrestling has announced that Resurgence, a NJPW STRONG branded event, will be heading to the Toyota Arena on May 11th.
The venue holds a capacity of 11,000, and with Windy City Riot already set with Hiromu Takahashi vs. Mustafa Ali, and Tetsuya Naito vs. Jon Moxley on its card, the STRONG brand continues to build itself up to bigger and further heights.
At last year’s Resurgence event, Willow Nightingale defeated Mercedes Mone in a tournament (that also included Momo Kohgo and Stephanie Vaquer) final to become inaugural NJPW STRONG Women’s Champion – the title is now held by STARDOM’s Giulia, who has defended the championship eight times since beating Nightingale, with her most recent defence against Trish Adora at Battle in the Valley last month. Giulia already has multiple women in STARDOM gunning for her belt, inlcuding Natsuko Tora and Nanae Takahashi.
Eddie Kingston currently holds the NJPW STRONG Openweight championship as part of AEW’s Triple Crown that includes the ROH World Championship and the Continental Crown. Since wnning the Continental Classic tournament, he has defended AEW’s triple crown thrice, against Trent?, Wheeler Yuta, and most recently Gabe Kidd in a double countout at Battle in the Valley.
