Zack Sabre Jr. Evens Score Against Bryan Danielson, but Not by Submission

Zack Sabre Jr. may have defeated Bryan Danielson, but it wasn’t by submission

By: James Carlin

At The New Beginning in Osaka, the “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson and “The Frontman” Zack Sabre Jr. had a re-match of their Forbidden Door 2023 encounter after Sabre Jr. proclaimed he wanted another match – but on the condition it took place on his home turf in New Japan.

The former NJPW World TV Champion would emerge victorious by pinning Danielson after going over thirty minutes. Throughout the match, the American Dragon and Frontman exchanged innovative counters against one-another, escaping each other’s skillful techniques again and again, being brash and cocky towards each other; Sabre Jr. insisting he doesn’t need a rope break, and Danielson telling the referee that he has until five.

However, the two had previously stated that they wanted to settle who is the greatest technical wrestler by submission – meaning that things are still not over between the two.

With both men now at 2-2 in singles action (Bryan winning in 2008 and 2023, and Sabre in 2009 and 2024), it remains to be seen where their next matchup will take place. Backstage, Danielson expressed his desire for the two to face off on “neutral ground” (outside of America and Asia) and implored any wrestling promoter who wants to do it to get in touch.

Forbidden Door took place in Canada last year, whereas AEW’s second Wembley Stadium show is upcoming in August – but these are just two possibilties that could house their fifth encounter.
