Yuki Ueno managed to defeat the Goliath, Yukio Naya, in DDT’s D-Oh Grand Prix Final on December 4th. It was a hard-fought victory, as Ueno fought back resiliently in the face of vicious knees and strikes from Naya.
Ueno showed his main event experience in victory, with Naya’s bruising offence falling just short of a three count. There was no shortage of tension in the match, from countless nearfalls to many piercing moves.
Eventually, Ueno had his hand raised as the D-Oh Grand Prix Winner, going one further than his final loss to Konosuke Takeshita last year.
Ueno: I won!
Naya…he's big, amazing, he has so much expectation put upon him and still he did his best. I'm so glad to face him in the finals. But…I'll become #1 in DDT and show it to everyone!2-Weeks Free trial ending SOON!https://t.co/LsvwKpRdnX#D王GP2022 #ddtpro pic.twitter.com/tv4RiBGLDc

Ueno’s victory means he books a date with Kazusada Higuchi for a KO-D Openweight clash. With the DDT Universal Championship already around his waist, Ueno will become a double champion if he defeats the King of DDT.
That match looks set for DDT’s final event of the year, Nevermind on December 29th.
Despite his loss, Yukio Naya could still challenge Higuchi in future following his victory over the champion in the final block match of the tournament.
Yuki Ueno has cemented himself as a main event star of DDT with his Grand Prix triumph, but defeating Higuchi will secure his pro wrestling stardom.
