Utami, Aja Kong, KAIRI and More Test Their Gaming Skills on TV

While STARDOM wrestlers are no stranger to playing games live (eg, Momo Watanabe’s old livestreams, or the current collaboration with mobile MMORPG Rise of Kingdoms, both on the promotion’s YouTube channel), Queen’s Quest are now brought to a national stage, along with an assortment of legendary women in joshi puroresu, to show what they’re made of in the virtual world.

Tokyo TV’s AriYoshiEEEEE! is considered to be the #1 program related to videogames and e-sports. Hosted by comedian, actor and general tarento Hiroiki Ariyoshi and several guests from the gaming and media worlds, the show has pushed hard for online gaming culture to take center stage in Japan.

This week the show premiered an episode featuring Utami Hayashishita, Saya Kamitani, AZM, KAIRI (Still IWGP Women’s Champion at the time of recording), Aja Kong (Who smashed a metal bin on a panelist’s head not one minute after walking into the set) , Shinobu Kandori, Kyoko Inoue and Takako Inoue as they all split into tag teams to defend the honor of the squared circle against AriYoshi’s panel in several rounds of the co-op game Gang Beasts.

Remarkably, this could be considered the first and maybe last time we’ll see the threatening-sounding tag team of Hayashishita and Kong. The other tandems were Kandori and KAIRI, Double Inoue, and AZM and Saya. They all faced off against the teams of Ariyoshi and idol Kumi Sasaki, comedian Bibiru Oki and actor Takushi Tanaka, and the stand-up comedian duos of Onigoe Tomahawk and Taka & Toshi, respectively.

We’ll give you the honest truth, the joshi did not fare too well in the first segment. All of them, minus the team of Utami and Aja, were eliminated in the first round. KAIRI in particular was eliminated in less than three seconds , leaving a helpless Kandori to try her best, to no success. Unfortunately, Hayashishita and Kong would go on to lose in the second round. The tournament was ultimately won by Oki and Tanaka.

There was a chance of redemption for the wrestlers, as the show continued with an eight-person battle royal featuring AZM, Kamitani, Kandori, Kyoko, Kumi, Takako, Ariyoshi and KAIRI. The latter three were the final survivors in the match, but while attempting to eliminate each other, they were all eliminated at the same time. It called for a three-way tiebreaker, and a Monthly Puroresu review.

Three-way elimination match, AriYoshiEEEEE! Gang Beasts Championship

KAIRI (c) vs Hiroiki Ariyoshi vs Takako Inoue

Yes, she has already appeared on the show last year, dominating Gang Beasts too.

In the game’s Trawler map, KAIRI fought hard against her opponents and the level’s environmental traps. Face of the program Ariyoshi was eliminated first after Inoue dropkicked him over the titular fishing trawler boat. It was down to Inoue and KAIRI, but they don’t call the champion a worldwide sailor for nothing. At the brisk of falling into the sea, KAIRI pulled an upset by flipping around Inoue and tossing her into the water. KAIRI emerges as Gang Beasts Champion for the second time. (0:51)

However, this is only the start. Next week, the cast will go through the game that caused so much “discord” throughout the pandemic, and many memes as well: Among Us. “I’m KAIRI, and I’m actually a gamer,” the Pirate Princess tweeted, “My favorite games are Resident Evil, Final Fantasy VII and PuyoPuyo.”
