The announcement has been made of the formation of a new industry group that aims to represent professional wrestling in Japan. The creation of the United Japan Pro-Wrestling group comes in the wake of the pandemic in which communications between wrestling companies on event guidelines were not in unison, leading to a variety of different responses. The newly formed UJPW seeks to establish a united front where all companies can convene and help eachother out moving forward regarding such issues.
Secondly, the aim of the group is to continue to develop the Japanese wrestling industry’s presence in Japanese culture and to work together to make sure that it prospers and maintains its health in the future.
Per New Japan Pro Wrestling’s official press release, the companies will all continue with their individual businesses as usual whilst the UJPW will allow the participating promotions a space to discuss concerns within the industry and enabling an exchange of information that benefits all promotions. Joint event and festivals will be held by the United Japan Pro-Wrestling group.
The UJPW will mark the creation of the group with an event at the Nippon Budokan on May 6th next year.
