The Sky’s The Limit: A Very Special Interview With Marigold Star Misa Matsui

By: Lewis Carlan

Misa Matsui has enjoyed great success since joining Marigold back in May 2024 after being a member of the Actwres girl’Z roster for six years.

Matsui, who has been with Marigold since it’s inception, has gone on to form the Darkness Revolution faction which has been become a force within the promotion. She won her first title back in Oct. 2025 when Matsui and fellow Darkness Revolution member CHIAKI won the Marigold Twin Star Championship.

After recently losing the Marigold Twin Star Titles, Matsui is now looking to the future as she has numerous championship belts in her sights. Matsui has won seven of her last eight singles bouts and has hinted that she will be looking to pursue a singles title in the future.

Misa Matsui has a tremendous amount of talent as a pro-wrestling competitor and as it stands right now, the sky is the limit for this star.

Despite her busy schedule, Matsui granted an interview to us here at Monthly Puroresu to discuss a variety of topics.

Here is the Monthly Puroresu interview with Misa Matsui:

Monthly Puroresu:
What are your thoughts about Utami Hayshishita leaving Marigold and do you see this as an opportunity for you to fill the leadership role left by Hayashishita?

Misa Matsui:
I’m sad! Whether we got along well or not, being in the same class is special. Well, I hope we can meet again someday. I’m not really the type to be a leader, but if I had to aim for a role, I’d say I’d be the eye of the storm.

Monthly Puroresu:
On May 23rd, you and CHIAKI lost the Twin Star Titles to Kouki Amarei & Chika Goto. Is your goal to regain the Twin Star Titles or do you feel you would like to pursue a singles title?

Misa Matsui:
I want every title. So I want to go after whatever I can get my hands on. This doesn’t mean I’m underestimating the belts I’m targeting first.

Monthly Puroresu:
You debuted new gear on May 23rd. What was your inspiration for the design you chose?

Misa Matsui:
I thought, “Let’s aim for something darker—cool rather than cute.” But when I wear it, it ends up being cute anyway. This one is probably way too cute, too.

Monthly Puroresu:
Marigold just celebrated its second anniversary, how does it feel to be part of growing promotion and what do you think Marigold needs to do to get it to the next level?

Misa Matsui:
As far as Darkness is concerned, it’s a perfect score as long as we can keep having fun and playing with passion. If I had to name one thing, I’d say it’s raising the overall level, right? We can’t keep relying on Challenge Matches forever.

Monthly Puroresu:
After spending 6 years with Actwres girl’Z, what were the circumstances that led you to join Marigold?

Misa Matsui:
I wanted to perform with the confidence to call myself a “professional wrestler,” so I approached Rossy Ogawa and joined Marigold.

Monthly Puroresu:
What was your motivation to pursue a career as a pro-wrestler?

Misa Matsui:
A fellow actor I was working with at the time recommended I go see a live pro-wrestling match. I was so moved by it that I decided I wanted to do it myself.

Monthly Puroresu:
Do all the members of Darkness Revolution spend as much together outside the ring as you do inside the ring competing as a unit? What are some of your favorite things to do when not competing?

Misa Matsui:
We go out to eat together in our free time. We really talk a lot.

Monthly Puroresu:
Would you be open to adding more members to Darkness Revolution or do you feel the unit is perfect the way it is right now?

Misa Matsui:
If someone wants to join, we’ll welcome them. But Darkness Revolution is tougher than you might expect. Still, I promise it’ll be fun.

Monthly Puroresu:
You recently posted a photo on social media of you eating pizza with Rea Seto. How was the pizza and where did you get it?

Misa Matsui:
I love pizza. I eat it all the time. Rea looked it up quickly in New York, so we went there. It was huge and really filling.

Monthly Puroresu:
While Darkness Revolution was unsuccessful in winning the Marigold 3D Trios Titles, could we expect the unit to pursue another opportunity at the trios titles?

Misa Matsui:
Of course. The 3D Championship won’t really get moving until we take it.

Monthly Puroresu:
Since unsuccessfully challenging Victoria Yuzuki in Dec 2025 for the United National Title, you have been very successful in singles matches. Do you feel this puts you in position to challenge for another singles title soon and is there a specific singles title you would like to pursue?

Misa Matsui:
I want every belt. I believe I’ve always performed well enough to be a worthy challenger for any title, at any time.

Monthly Puroresu:
What skills do you think are the most important for a pro-wrestler?

Misa Matsui:
A broad perspective.

Monthly Puroresu:
Describe your training regiment and what you do to prepare for a match, especially title matches.

Misa Matsui:
I focus on basic training. In fact, that’s pretty much all I do.

Monthly Puroresu:
You travelled to the USA twice in 2025 to compete for Sukeban. Despite being there for a very short time on both occasions, were you able go sightseeing at all while in Los Angeles and Miami? What was your favorite part of visiting the USA?

Misa Matsui:
In Miami, I just ate pancakes. In Los Angeles, I took a walk through Hollywood. What really stood out were the supermarkets. Everything is supersized!

Monthly Puroresu:
Which match has been your most memorable so far in your career?

Misa Matsui:
It might be my debut match.

Monthly Puroresu:
What do you love most about being a pro-wrestler and what keeps you to remain passionate about the sport?

Misa Matsui:
The appeal is being cool! There are always mountains of things I need to work on. That’s my biggest driving force.

Monthly Puroresu:
What can your fans expect from you for the rest of 2026 and what are you goals to the remainder of the year?

Misa Matsui:
I’ll become even cooler and cuter, and I’ll show you all even bigger dreams. I also want you to look forward to my rise as a singles wrestler.

Monthly Puroresu would like to extend our sincere gratitude to DSF Marigold for facilitating this interview with Misa Matsui.
