STARDOM President Taro Okada & Numerous Stars Offer Congratulations To Saya Kamitani On Her Historic Tokyo Sports MVP Award Win

By: Lewis Carlan

On Dec. 16th, STARDOM megastar Saya Kamitani made history as she was named the first woman ever to win the prestigious Tokyo Sports MVP Award.

From 1974 through 2024, the Tokyo Sports MVP Award was given to a man but that all changed in 2025 with Kamitani becoming the first woman ever to win the award.

Following her historic achievement, STARDOM President Taro Okada and numerous STARDOM competitors offered their congratulations to Kamitani.

From President Taro Okada:

We are deeply honored that Saya Kamitani, a wrestler belonging to our company STARDOM, has simultaneously received the Most Valuable Player Award (Pro-Wrestling Grand Prize MVP) and the Women’s Pro-Wrestling Grand Prize at the Tokyo Sports Newspaper’s 2025 “Pro-Wrestling Grand Awards supported by Nishitan Clinic. This marks an unprecedented achievement in the over-half-century history of the Pro-Wrestling Grand Prize, and we as a promotion are deeply delighted. Setting aside her ‘misdeeds’ both inside and outside the ring, in 2025 she led STARDOM, running continuously as the face of women’s pro-wrestling and as a top runner for the entire pro-wrestling industry.  We believe that her presence and her matches have moved the hearts of not only pro-wrestling fans and industry insiders, but also many people who had never been exposed to pro-wrestling fans before. SayaKamitani will undoubtedly remain an indispensable and increasingly unmissable presence for the development of STARDOM and pro-wrestling itself. The fight continues, but for now, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who supported Saya Kamitani and STARDOM this year. As we head toward the Ryogoku event and into 2026, we ask for your continued unwavering support.” (H/T goes to meraWRESTLING for English quote translation)

From Konami:

“Because Kamitani worked so hard, history was changed! I’ve been watching your hard work from up close all this time! Once again, congratulations!” (H/T goes to meraWRESTLING for English quote translation)

From Natsuko Tora:

“You finally did it, didn’t you?
You didn’t just drag the whole world into your nightmare; you’ve dyed everything pitch black. Congratulations! Kamitani is our pride.” (H/T goes to meraWRESTLING for English quote translation)

From Rina:

“Congratulations Kamitani!!! You’re so amazing! Thank you for always inspiring me!” (English Translation via Google Translate)

From Momo Watanabe:

“Wow, Kamitani!!! I’ve never felt like I was in a history-changing moment like this. Congratulations!! (English Translation via Google Translate)

From Ruaka:

Kamitani!!! You’re always so cool!!!
Congratulations! (English Translation via Google Translate)

From Aya Sakura:

“Congratulations to Kamitani on winning the Pro Wrestling Grand Prix MVP award. This is the first time in women’s history that this has happened, and I think it’s truly amazing. But as someone who is now fighting in the same ring, I don’t intend to leave it at just “congratulations.” We will definitely surpass you. We will end the era of H.A.T.E.’s dominance.” (English Translation via Google Translate)

From Momo Kohgo:

“A first in history! Truly amazing. She’s changing women’s professional wrestling. I’m so happy that such a presence is at STARDOM. I feel frustrated with myself for standing still, but this good news has made me want to work hard too. One person’s hard work is a driving force for others, right? I’ll work hard to become that kind of person too!” (English Translation via Google Translate)

From Anne Kanaya:

“Congratulations to Kamitani on being named MVP! She’s honestly so cool. I can’t let myself lose either!! I’m going to get even stronger!!!” (English Translation via Google Translate)

The Tokyo Sports 2025 MVP Saya Kamitani has two major matches upcoming. On Dec. 29 she defends the World of STARDOM Championship against Saori Anou.

On Jan. 4th she will put her NJPW STRONG Women’s title up against Syuri and her IWGP Women’s title in a double championship bout in front of over 50,000 people at Wrestle Kingdom 20 inside the Tokyo Dome.
