Shinsuke Nakamura Speaks Ahead of His ‘Miracle’ Match Against the Great Muta

“It was a surprise to me. It was unbelievable”, said Shinsuke Nakamura in a recent interview with Pro Wrestling NOAH, speaking about his New Year’s match with the Great Muta. “That was my honest reaction, that it actually came to be real.”

WWE Superstar Shinsuke Nakamura recently sat down with Pro Wrestling NOAH and discussed a number of topics ahead of his return to Japan on January 1st, like growing up as a huge Great Muta fan, watching him on midnight television in the ’90s, screaming at the screen with excitement.

But as he got Nakamura grew older and developed as a pro wrestler, he would also stop thinking about Muta as a larger-than-life figure.

“I stopped thinking Great Muta was much different from Keiji Muto. It’s just another side of him. Muta has his own world and rhythm.”

When speaking about the match, Nakamura said, “it’s a miracle to me. It’s a match that miraculously took place in the midst of changing times.”

With the passing of Mr. Antonio Inoki and Keiji Muto’s imminent retirement, Nakamura also explained that this “miracle” of a match is so much more important in the context of 2022.

“You know, this year, many important wrestlers have passed away or retired, so it’s a match that will miraculously take place in the midst of the changing times.”

So, then, what should fans expect from the upcoming version of Shinsuke Nakamura?

“This is not same Shinsuke Nakamura from the past.”

On January 1st, Shinsuke Nakamura gets to mark two of his childhood idols off the checklist in both Keiji Muto and the Great Muta.

“It’s like a parting gift to my soul.”
