Nagisa Shiotsuki: Ones to Watch

By Jeff Brown

Hailing from Chigasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture, the 26-year-old debuted at Shinjuku Face for the introductory outing of the new Actwres Girl’Z, entitled AWG ACTwrestling Hataage. The rookie teamed up with AWG Ace Miku Aono in a winning outing, showing poise and confidence beyond her tenure.

Nagisa has a style that is very technical and reminiscent of Bret Hart in the early 90s, so it is quite fitting that one of her signature maneuvers is the Sharpshooter submission. The Hart comparisons continue with her ring gear, which includes shoulder epaulets, but in lieu of bright pink and black, she employs an equally striking combination of blues and whites evoking the ocean. The color scheme is a nod to her love of surfing and water in general and is in line with her moniker, “The Moonlight Warrior Who Loves the Sea.” Shiotsuki’s deadliest weapons are her chops, and in quite the twist, the veteran roster, such as Ayano Irie, are afraid of taking the thunderous smacks.

For a good reason, as in her debut match, she chopped trainer/wrestler Mari’s chest into a bloody mess. As with many of the young wrestlers on the AWG roster, the moonlight warrior has only had 23 matches in her brief career. She has spent the bulk of that time rapidly improving her in-ring abilities in tag matches with a variety of partners, such as Kyoka Iwai and Riko Fukunaga, but seems to have found a permanent team with Sakura Mizushima.

Her first singles win came at ACTwrestling Step 11, where she defeated future stablemate Asako Mia on November 11th. Nagisa was the more experienced and sound wrestler, but Asako quickly dragged her into a shenanigans match. That is one of Shiotsuki’s strengths, her strong facial expressions as the bewildered straight man, or tsukkomi, in these Manzai style matches. To continue the Bret Hart analogy, she is the wrestler’s wrestler, using skill and logic while fighting against nonsense and cheating.

After six minutes of Asako’s boke antics, an exasperated Nagisa grabbed a schoolboy to place the first checkmark in her win column. At the end of 2022, Nagisa joined Mii in her Update + faction, which also includes Sakura Mizushima and Asako Mia. Prior to that, she was a member of Kisaki’s Army, a group that only appears at Korakuen Hall shows and brings guns to the ring for their entrance.

In Action Ring Girls, Nagisa is with Bijou, the faction known as the Phantom Thieves, along with Miku Aono and Riko Fukunaga. Their goal is to steal the world’s power and riches, no matter the cost or who they upset. Her character is Émé, clad in a cape, green costume, and monocle. She is called “the strong will that shines through her dainty appearance.” “The eternal emerald glow.” Her previous ARG faction was Red Fragment, which she co-founded with Miku Aono and was led by “The Shining Star,” Arisa Hoshiki, formerly of Stardom. The Phantom Thieves did a memorable YouTube video where they were in full costume at a bowling alley.

In addition to the bowling, there was a rule that if you said certain words, you were penalized with a kick from either Miku or Riko, both known for their vicious kicks, or a dreaded chop from Nagisa, all on camera and in front of the public. Shiotsuki co-stars with fellow Actress GirlZ, Sakura Mizushima, Koara Fujimoto, and Kanamic in the YouTube series NagiSakuKoalaMic. Every few weeks, the quartet releases a new episode, having fun while promoting their talent agency, Coelacanth Factory, and upcoming AWG/ARG shows.

Nagisa is the bespectacled hipster assistant to Mizushima’s Italian fashion designer character and is often traumatized by Pictionary with a balloon timer. With a grounded and understated style that is strong in the fundamentals, Shiotsuki has quietly and patiently become one to watch.
