Puroresu Gate, Weekly Ticket Sales – 2.28.23

Puroresu Gate: 28th Of February 2023

By: Mitchell Adams

Welcome to Puroresu Gate, a weekly feature where we review attendance figures of Puroresu and Joshi promotions in the most well-known venues in Japan.

In this week’s edition of Puroresu Gate, we examine the ticket sales for events held in the 55,000-seat capacity Tokyo Dome.

Pro Wrestling Noah: Muto Last Love

Date: February 21st, 2023

Venue: Tokyo Dome

Attendance: 30,096

Pro Wrestling Noah put on a spectacular send-off for one of the greatest to ever lace up a pair of boots in this event which featured the biggest stars from multiple Puroresu and Joshi promotions as well as legends from the past. In a truly heartwarming special surprise for everyone in attendance and everyone watching at home, Keiji Muto took part in not one but two retirement matches to close out the event. The first against New Japan Pro Wrestling star Tetsuya Naito and the second with arguably his greatest career rival Masahiro Chono.

For comparison, here is a past event held in the Tokyo Dome.

New Japan Pro Wrestling: WrestleKingdom 17

Date: January 4th, 2023

Venue: Tokyo Dome

Attendance: 26,085

With the global pandemic severely limiting attendance and crowd participation for WrestleKingdom 15 and 16, words can’t describe just how thrilled everyone at MP was to see all restrictions lifted for this event so a large crowd of fans could cheer and boo to their heart’s content. We can only imagine how good it must have felt for every wrestler on the card as well. This event was STACKED from top to bottom from the first IWGP Women’s Championship defense between KAIRI and Tam Nakano which was followed by the debut of Mercedes Mone’ (FKA WWE’s Sasha Banks) to the co-main events of Kenny Omega vs. Will Ospreay for the IWGP U.S. Championship and Jay White vs. Kazuchika Okada for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship. Do yourself a favor and give this event repeat viewings on NJPW World!
