Maki Itoh Has No Strategy for Grand Princess, “It’s a Gamble”

It was little over a month ago when the 121000000 (“One-two-one-million”) duo of Maki Itoh and Miyu Yamashita defeated Hyper Misao and Shoko Nakajima to conquer the Max Heart Tag Tournament and earn a title shot for TJPW’s Princess Tag Team Championships against Wasteland War Party on March 18th’s Grand Princess show in Ariake Colosseum.

Itoh and Yamashita have had an eventful start of the year, with the part-time idol wrestling in the United States and the pink striker asserting her dominance in the United Kingdom, while also racking up wins in Japan. It’s because of this that they haven’t shared much time together, as Itoh confessed in an interview with BBM Sports.

However, Itoh isn’t too bothered about the high stakes at TJPW’s biggest show of the year. In fact, due to her commitments in the U.S; Itoh couldn’t even make it to visit the Ariake Colosseum with the rest of the roster, and she didn’t seem to care much. When asked about her match with Yamashita, Itoh expressed that she’s calm because she can rely on Miyu to achieve their goals together.

BBM touched on Miyu’s comments about her relationship with Maki before their tournament win, which we reported last month. Both women agree that they’re more “business partners” than friends, and barely see or even keep in touch with each other.

Itoh went as far as chalking up their tournament win to sheer luck, as she comes from a family of gamblers. The New Age Charisma recalls a previous incident last year, where her social media accounts were hacked and her credit card stolen, only to timely recover everything without a single fraudulent transaction. In addition, her tour with GCW was threatened by flight delays and logistics issues, but she still made it to her full schedule.

With that in mind, Maki Itoh said that whatever happens on Saturday will all come down to luck. Regardless of her nihilistic outlook, Itoh does enjoy the idea of the success that can come from a victory, including the possibility of a manga series about her team with Yamashita.

“But to do that, it’s not enough just to win the belt, you have to create a lot of buzz,” explained Itoh, “So if you only focus on winning the belts, you will lose anyways. Luck may be a factor, but we also have to keep the future in mind as well. Well, I will do my best.”
