Finlay Decisively Confirms Leadership of Bullet Club

By: J. Curbelo

While it was a guarantee to virtually everyone in the wrestling world, David Finlay had remained ambiguous about his position in the hierarchy of Bullet Club since he attacked Jay White after his final match in New Japan Pro-Wrestling to join the unit. Today, after defeating Great-O-Khan, the Rebel finally called himself the fifth leader.

NJPW’s March 15th show in Okayama saw Finlay best O-Khan to advance in the New Japan Cup after an intense and vicious fight between two aggressive wrestlers. Finlay is set to face Shota Umino in the quarterfinals. If he won, he’d go on to face either Hirooki Goto or one Tama Tonga in the semis.

An interesting development took place after the match, where Finlay boasted about defeating O-Khan, calling him no match for his talent and potential. He argued that he comes from a lineage of great wrestlers in past generations, and that he should be no exception. Because of that, he overtook Bullet Club to do his best under pressure, admitting for the first time that he is the new leader of the group, “Whether you like it or not.”

“But BC’s job is not to follow me. They must push me forward,” warned Finlay, “I will paint this era golden. I didn’t join because they were waiting for me to lead them, I joined because they’re a weapon waiting to be used by me.” Bullet Club is soon to achieve ten years of history, with five generations now. As he implied, Finlay also expects to surpass his elders by winning a world championship. His father certainly expects him to do so, regardless of the Rebel’s attitude.

However, not everyone seems to be on board with the idea, namely El Phantasmo. As tension between ELP and Finlay builds up, fans expect a conflict of interest to burst out very soon within the faction.
