Airi Muto Reminisces About her Father’s Career

by: J. Curbelo

20 year old Airi Muto, the daughter of Keiji Muto, has commented on his father’s retirement from professional wrestling, and shared her memories of traveling along with his dad as he forged his legendary career in an interview with Nikkan Sports

Born on April 3rd, 2000, Airi is also known as a musician and songwriter with the stage name “Mua”, which can be interpreted as “Poison mist”. She also often wears a half mask that resembles that of The Great Muta while performing. Regardless of all that, Airi insists that it’s all a coincidence as she created her music persona based on “what looked cool” to her.

The up-and-coming singer remembers her childhood as Keiji would take her with him to many different places, such as Guam, New York, Las Vegas and the Saipan island. Airi being constantly fascinated about how huge his back was as she played on it while he took her swimming. “The size of his back has not changed a bit,” Airi told Nikkan. When they both got a bit older and Muto started growing gray hair on his chest, she would also pull all of them one by one, as she didn’t want him to look old.

Time waits for no one, but Keiji Muto made sure to stay in shape all the way to the end. At 60 years old, he has a strict dieting regime and exercise routine. Airi recalls that he doesn’t skip a single day at the gym, regardless of how many injuries he’s dealing with. Even his bedtime and bathroom time are almost the same every day. Airi deeply admires his dad’s dedication to staying as fit as possible and his commitment to the craft. “I wish I could find something to love as much as he loves professional wrestling,” she said.

Despite her admiration for his commitment and endurance, Airi expressed relief after learning that he was going to retire. “It’s finally over,” Airi expressed. She felt that he was always pushing himself beyond his limits, and it got the better of him in recent years. “He became more and more anxious,” she said, while also acknowledging that he will never truly stop. “Dad says ‘I’ll take it easy now that I’m old’, but he’s the kind of man that always needs something to chase”. Airi promises to always support her father in whatever comes next.

‘Mua’ is currently studying at music college, but her incursion into the art goes all the way back to 2009. While she begins her path, she regularly performs live at the Ginza district. She has over 30 original songs in her YouTube channel.
