CyberFight has to love what they see in Marigold, the Joshi promotion that launched in 2024 under the guidance of former STARDOM wrestlers. On Monday, enigmatic wrestler Megaton appeared on Pro Wrestling NOAH, Marigold’s brother promotion, representing a cross-promotional collaboration that has become increasingly common in Japanese wrestling.
Megaton’s NOAH appearance generated genuine excitement among Japanese wrestling fans, and their response revealed why fans in Japan are simply the best. Rather than analyzing the booking logic or questioning the promotional politics, fans are simply celebrating the performance itself. They don’t need their entertainment to be logical; they need it to be emotionally authentic within its own impossible framework.
In the match, Miku Aono, Megaton & Miyuki Takase defeated Takumi Iroha, Great Sakuya & Sora Ayame via disqualification. Great Sakuya, one of the first joshi to compete in NOAH’s traditionally men’s-only squared circle, had enough of Megaton’s antics and hit her with the green mist to end the affair.
Cross-promotional appearances like Megaton’s NOAH visit serve multiple purposes in Japanese wrestling. They build relationships between promotions, give wrestlers exposure to different audiences, and create the kind of special attraction that generates genuine excitement. When Marigold sends one of their featured performers to NOAH, it’s both a business decision and a creative statement about the interconnected nature of Japanese wrestling.
Social media posts about Megaton’s appearance are filled with genuine excitement and appreciation for her seemingly random appearance.
Fans are sharing clips, discussing her moves, and expressing hope that she’ll return to NOAH programming.
There’s an absence of the meta-commentary; no debates about whether this appearance “makes sense” from a storyline perspective, no complaints about cross-promotional politics… just curious comparisons to Teletubbies, and a strong request of NOSAWA to bring in more Marigold talent to NOAH’s seasonal Monday variety show.
