Yuki Arai, Suzume and The IInspiration All Claim Gold at TJPW GRAND PRINCESS

By Noah Leatherland

TJPW drew 3,089 fans to the Ryogoku Kokugikan for their annual GRAND PRINCESS event, making it the most attended event in the promotion’s history. The huge crowd were treated to a history making event in the promotion’s history, as a whole new set of champions were crowned with brand new belts.

Yuki Arai climbed the TJPW mountaintop at GRAND PRINCESS. She defeated Miu Watanabe to become the new Princess of Princess Champion. Her Finally axe kick proved to be the finishing blow after a punishing battle with Watanabe.

Arai becomes the 17th Princess of Princess Champion, joining an elite class of TJPW’s best. Both women were emotional after match, embracing one another as they shared the stage of TJPW’s biggest ever event. Taking the microphone, Yuki Arai looked towards the future of TJPW:

I have a dream, and that dream is for Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling to be loved by many, many more people, and for all of us wrestlers to hold a show together at the Tokyo Dome! It takes a lot of courage to say this, but since I’ve said it in front of everyone… more than anyone, I want to dream boldly, almost foolishly, and show everyone a view they wouldn’t believe is possible. So please continue to support Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling!

Speaking in her post-match interview, Arai reflected on the win on a more personal level:

It feels like a dream to have the belt in my hands, but the fact that I won it by fighting Miu makes it all the more meaningful. I want us all to push forward together to even bigger stages with this belt. I’m sure there will be all sorts of challenges ahead, but I believe that with this belt, we can overcome them.

Meanwhile, Miu Watanabe reckoned with her feelings in the wake of her defeat:

It was great to have my first singles match against Arai, to fight for the Princess of Princess title, and to do it at Ryogoku. But I’m frustrated. I’m frustrated, but at the same time, I realise I do like Arai after all; on the one hand, I don’t dislike her, so it’s annoying that now I’ve ended up hating her. What is this feeling, exactly?

The International Princess Title also changed hands at TJPW GRAND PRINCESS. Suzume managed to overcome her former tag team partner, MIRAI. Having absorbed a lot of punishment from MIRAI, Suzume managed to secure the win with a pair of Ring-a-bell cutters.

Suzume did not get to celebrate for long before a challenger emerged. Her post-match interview was interrupted by Sakura Hattori, handing Suzume a scroll that issued the challenge. While Suzume is already hitting the ground running with new challengers, MIRAI does not consider their rivalry over:

The belt is now in Suzume’s hands. It’s not just a feeling of frustration. It makes me realise that I’ve grown over these past four years and managed to come back here. This brings our head-to-head record to one win apiece, but I’ll definitely seize another chance to face her, and next time, I want to be the one who wins…!

The Princess Tag Team Championships also exchanged hands at the Ryogoku Kokugikan. The IInspiration bested Ober Eats, adding the Princess belts to their list of tag team accomplishments. It was Wakana Uehara who suffered the fall for Ober Eats, unable to kick out of The IInspiration’s Idolizer.

While Uehara was inconsolable at the post-match comments, Kamifuku was able to appreciate the occasion in front of a record-breaking crowd through the frustration:

We lost, didn’t we? But those blonde chicks might as well have won. They turned up dressed as if they were heading to a bar in Roppongi! … I could really feel the love from those people. Doesn’t that make you think it’s all worth it to be in pro wrestling?
