Yuka Sakazaki TJPW Sendoff Now Streaming. Here’s Why it Counts

By: Jeff Brown

Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling is in the middle of celebrating its 10th anniversary, has had a series of big shows at Korakuen Hall, an aquarium, and will return to LA for Combat Princess USA. However, they had a bittersweet show to mark the graduation of Yuka Sakazaki. The show titled “Yuka Sakazaki Graduation Special” is fittingly held at Kitazawa Town Hall, ten years after The Magical Girl’s debut in December of 2013 at the same venue. For many fans, Sakazaki is the heart and soul of TJPW, as she represents everything the company offers to the world of Joshi. From the infectious “ayayayay” of her entrance theme, “I Can Fly,” to her colorful genie-inspired ring attire, she immediately stands out on any wrestling card. Fun and hilarious comedy matches, cooking contests, top-level tag team action, hard-hitting main events, and emotional feuds are all hallmarks of her unique style and show that TJPW can be much more than lighthearted mayhem.

For this show, she teams with Rika Tatsumi to face Antonio Honda and Trans-Am ★ Hiroshi, who were all members of the music group Dramatic Perfect Group (DPG) prior to joining TJPW. Yuka also faces Miyu Yamashita and Shoko Nakajima in a special 3-way match. Each one is an important piece to the building and growth of this promotion, so it’s a nice way to finish things out for Yuka. Finally, she will face Mizuki, the Popping Sugar Rabbit, and her tag partner in MagiRabbi (The Magical Sugar Rabbits). The duo were the Princess Tag champions but were forced to relinquish them when Yuka got injured. Said injury also shortened whatever was planned for her graduation run, as she missed nearly 5 months. Mizuki and Sakazaki also were the main event for Grand Princess ’23 battling for the Princess of Princess of Championship.

Yuka has already made appearances in AEW and ROH and will now focus on a career in the United States. Yuka, in a decade, amassed a large list of accomplishments and title reigns. She had a large presence, and she could only be matched by Ace Yamashita. Leaving the company will also shape the brand, as the tone and direction will evolve in her wake. Yuka will always be synonymous with TJPW, but now she will influence the wrestling scene stateside, as she has in Japan. The entire card is available to watch on demand on Wrestle Universe.
