Will Ospreay vs Yota Tsuji: What We Expected and More

The IWGP United Kingdom Champion Will Ospreay put his championship on the line against New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Musketeer, Yota Tsuji. The result was mesmerizing.

New Japan Pro Wrestling is the biggest promotion in Japan today, and this match can be a solid proof of this statement. The rivalry between Will Ospreay and Yota Tsuji was the protagonist of the latest New Japan show in Kobe, and the IWGP United Kingdom Championship title defense stole all the lights from what was shaping up to be certainly a forgettable show. At one corner, the IWGP UK Champion and potentially the best wrestler in the world today. On the other, the man carrying the future of the lion’s mark on his back. A recipe for success, that gave Puroresu fans a glimpse into the future of the undisputed top promotion in Japan. As part of the aforementioned Reiwa Three Musketeers, Tsuji has been the most polished one between Shota Umino and Ren Narita, and this match was the proof he’s ready for bigger scenarios.

Ospreay, on the other hand, added another great match to his now large collection this year, and capped off what he called “The Summer of Ospreay” with a victory over Tsuji. After the match, Ospreay declared Tsuji as the one that will carry New Japan in the next years as the top star. Such a bold statement could be a surprise to many, but considering Tsuji made his triumphant return to Japan challenging none other than the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion SANADA, it’s not crazy to put it on the table. Ospreay is having the run of a lifetime, but in this match we saw a different monster inside Tsuji, that has overshadowed his peers in Umino and Narita. If this match was not enough to solidify both Tsuji and Ospreay in the wrestling industry, another big challenge is in front of Billy GOAT, by the name of Zack Sabre Jr. The NJPW World Television Champion stood in front of his contemporary and issued a challenge for Royal Quest III. Two of the best wrestlers in the world today, going at it in front of their own people. It doesn’t get better than this.
