As NJPW headed to Ibaraki for the fourth day in the Super Jr. Tag League, A Block was the focus of the event. There, Unbound Co. and House of Torture racked up wins to keep things tight at the top of A Block.
First up, Taiji Ishimori and Robbie X faced off against Master Wato and KUUKAI. Unbound Co. set the tone for the evening’s block matches, being able to pick up a big win. The victory came off of Robbie X landing his X Express on KUUKAI. As such, Ishimori and X collected 2 points, brining their running total to 6 points in A Block. That total moved them up to first place in A Block, but at the mercy of the event’s remaining matches.
Speaking backstage, Ishimori showed just how much the win fired him up:
Yesterday, unfortunately, we were defeated. But today, we’re starting fresh and claiming our third win. We haven’t forgotten the frustration from last year. We can’t afford to lose if we want to make it to the finals two years in a row. We’re definitely going to make it there.
After bouncing back from their defeat in the opening night, Time Splitters V2 entered Ibaraki on 4 points, with the chance to push their names towards the top. However, the duo of Ryusuke Taguchi and Kazuma Sumi proved to have their number. After a back and forth contest, Taguchi managed to clinch the win by catching KUSHIDA with a roll-up pin. The win moves Taguchi and Sumi up to 4 points, matching KUSHIDA and Nick Wayne in the middle of the pack.
Then, in the main event, DOUKI and Yoshinobu Kanemaru faced the makeshift pair of Mistico and Masatora Yasuda. The House of Torture were smart, isolating Yasuda and keeping Mistico out of the ring as much as possible. The tactics proved fruitful, with their victory secured after DOUKI landed the Suplex De La Luna on Yasuda, while Kanemaru kept Mistico tied up. After the match, the House of Torture continued putting the hurt on Mistico, the man holding one half of the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Championships. Speaking backstage, Mistico vented his anger:
DOUKI and Kanemaru really ran wild tonight. Like I always say, I’m not obsessed with winning. What matters is the battle against my rivals. Starting tonight, this Mistico is going after DOUKI and Kanemaru. I’m coming to take you guys down. You two better be ready.
