TJPW Max Heart Tournament Round 3 Results

By: Jeff Brown

TJPW was at Ryogoku KFC Hall for the semi-finals of the Max Heart 4 Tournament. Daisy Monkey (Arisu Endo & Suzume) took on Juria Nagano and Moka Miyamoto, while Daydream (Rika Tatsumi & Miu Watanabe) went up against Yuki Arai and Wakana Uehara. The show started with the Up Up Girls featuring Uta (in place of Hikari Noa) in a performance of their newest song, “It’s a Battle!”

Juria Nagano & Moka Miyamoto vs Daisy Monkey (Arisu Endo & Suzume)

A very good match with neither team wanting to lose, Juria has stated that, with her pending graduation on April 13th, she wishes to win the Princess Tag Titles with Moka. In contrast, Daisy Monkey always has lots of heart and passion and are the more seasoned duo. Juria and Moka did a good job of using their karate in ways to shut down the more experienced team of Endo and Suzume. Daisy Monkey has challenged for the tag titles in the past, but they both feel ready for a big career win this year. It was a solid back-and-forth battle, but Endo eventually gets the Camel Clutch on Juria for the tapout.

Yuki Arai & Wakana Uehara vs Daydream (Rika Tatsumi & Miu Watanabe)

Yuki and Wakana tested the veterans pretty hard. Wakana has had 60 matches and did not feel out of place in the main event or the semifinals of a tournament. Yuki herself is the International Princesses Champion and also finds time to be both a wrestler and a full-time Idol in SKE48, with less than 100 matches as well. They didn’t stray from their attack plan and tried to keep Watanabe isolated towards the end of the bout. Wakana got a very close 2.9 count with a jackknife pin. Later, she got her trusty sleeper hold on, but it only managed to fire up Watanabe. She proved she is the number one contender for the Princess of Princess Championship for a reason: she can endure a beating and will have power left in her reserves. Like the previous match, the established team had the wisdom and had been in more big match situations. Rika just wears down her opponent by grinding away on a body part or performing tandem moves. Watanabe got into the zone and withstood all the strikes from Wakana before hitting the Tear Drop for the win.

In a show that was a lot of fun from start to finish, both semi-finals were a war of attrition, with the younger teams both coming up short. The rookies excelled in this tournament and proved they could handle important spots on the card. Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling has an undercard that is quickly rising to the challenge, and Watanabe has developed a big match tempo and style that is Princess of Princess-worthy. 2024 is off to a great start, with a lot of new pieces on the board and talent reshaping the company in an exciting new chapter.
