Pro Wrestling ZERO1 recently announced that it will hold its Strongest Tag Team 1-Day Tournament on November 1st at the ZERO1 Dojo in Tokyo.
The six teams competing in the single-elimination tournament were decided at random via a computer-generated lottery and were announced by ZERO1 on social media on October 11th.
Here are the teams competing in ZERO1’s Strongest Tag Team tournament:
The nature of the randomly generated teams will see the Kubota Brothers face off in the first round, with Hide Kubota teaming with Masato Tanaka and Yasu Kubota teaming with Tsugutaka Sato. Also in the first round, Hayabusa and new partner, Koji Doi, will be pitted against one another, with Hayabusa teaming with Chris Vice and Doi with Takuya Sugawara.
Interestingly enough, the champion and challenger for the ZERO1 World Heavyweight Championship, Junya Matsunaga (C) and Katsuhiko Nakajima, will be on opposite ends of the bracket, both receiving first-round byes. Katsuhiko Nakajima will team with Yuki Toki, and Junya Matsunaga will be alongside Bryan Ishizaka. If teams are successful there’s a possibility of seeing a preview of their upcoming title match at Korakuen Hall.
Former double champion Junya Matsunaga recently lost his Intercontinental Tag Team Titles to Chris Vice and Daichi Hashimoto. With his World Heavyweight Title defense against Nakajima on November 23rd at Korakuen Hall, a strong performance in the 1-Day Tournament is a must if he hopes to get momentum back on his side.
