SEAdLINNNG Vibrant February 2023 Review

By: Abid Chowdhury

After Arisa Nakajima pinned Hiroyo Matsumoto to become a three-time Beyond The Sea Champion (BTS), she was challenged by many up-and-comers within the joshi wrestling scene. Just Tap Out (JTO)’s Misa Kagura, Active Advance Pro Wrestling’s (2AW) Ayame Sasamura, freelancer Itsuki Aoki, SEAdLINNNG’s Rico Kaiju, and freelancer Riko Kawahata. The next challenger to Nakajima’s title would not be announced until SEAdLINNNG’s first show of the new year on January 13th. During the main event a battle royal was held, in which the final two participants within that match were Arisa Nakajima and Riko Kawahata. Kawahata eliminated the champion, which led to Kawahata challenging for Nakajima’s championship. The match would be made official later on, with the date being made as February 16th at Shinjuku FACE – Arisa Nakajima defending her Beyond the Sea title against Riko Kawahata.

SEAdLINNNG opened their pay per view show with a special singles match which saw freelancer Miyuki Takase face off against the future of pro-wrestling, PURE-J’s Crea. Takase would pin Crea at 12 minutes and 33 seconds, a great way to kick off the show and a recommended watch.

The next match was a three-way high-speed match, refereed by “high-speed” style legend Natsuki Taiyo. The rules for the match are win by pinfall or by submission. Pinfalls are fast counts and only count if you run the ropes. The talent in this match featured freelancer Kakeru Sekiguchi, Gatoh Move’s Mei Suruga and a mystery opponent dubbed as “X”. After both wrestlers were in the ring, “X” came to the ring. She danced and entered wearing a mask. Ring announcer Chiho Tomiyama announced the mystery wrestler as “La Pidita” from Mexico. Everyone within the venue knew who this was. It was later revealed that the masked wrestler was indeed Kaho Kobayashi, who has wrestled in CMLL in the past, where she was forced to cut her hair.

From the opening bell, this was a lot of fun to watch. La Pidita pinned both Mei Suruga and Kakeru Sekiguchi at 6 minutes and 34 seconds.

The third match on this show was an eight person tag team match. The first team involved PURE-J’s AKARI, SEAdLINNNG’s Amazon and freelancers Rina Yamashita and Mikami. They faced off against freelancers Hiroyo Matsumoto, Ryo Mizunami and the Beyond The Sea Tag Champions: VENY & Makoto. Amazon pinned Makoto at 14 minutes and 47 seconds in a fun match.

After the match, Amazon announced the formation of a new unit to combat VENY and Makoto’s evil unit known as “Las Fresa De Egoistas”. This new faction does not have a name yet but will have Amazon as the leader, along with members AKARI, Mikami, and Rina Yamashita.

We are at the closing stretch for this show. Only two matches remained from this card, these two matches were the selling point for this show. Misa Kagura teamed with Itsuki Aoki against Ayame Sasamura and SEAdLINNNG’s prodigy, PURE-J’s Princess of Pro-Wrestling (POP) champion Rico Kaiju. This was such a great tag match, and the fans in attendance made this a really fun match to watch. Both teams went back and forth trading moves with each other. Itsuki Aoki and Ayame Sasamura traded stiff forearms to each others’ chests. Towards the end of the match, Rico delivered a northern lights suplex bridge only to get a
two count, which shocked Rico as she thought it would be a three count.

Rico was still upset towards the referee and in that moment Misa took advantage, delivering a lariat but only managed to get a two count. She followed up with a jumping double knee attack whilst Rico was down on the mat. She pinned Rico at 13 minutes and 5 seconds. Highly recommend watching this match. The final minutes featured two classmates who debuted within the same year in 2020 – Misa and Rico.

After the match, Misa challenged Rico for her Princess Of Pro-Wrestling championship. Rico was upset that she lost again to her classmate, and that she would defend her title against Misa on March 20th from Shinkiba 1st Ring.

In the main event, Arisa Nakajima looked to defend her Beyond the Sea championship against Riko Kawahata. Arisa Nakajima has been one of the best wrestlers for the past decade – a living legend within joshi pro-wrestling. For Arisa, this was just a regular day of her going to work. But for Riko, this was a huge opportunity. One to show how much she’s grown since making her debut in 2018 as part of the Actwres girl’Z roster, to then becoming a freelancer in late 2020, and where she is now in 2023. This was a back and forth match that saw Riko take Nakajima to her limit. Riko delivered stiff kicks towards the back of Nakajima, and followed up with a penalty kick only to get the two count.

The champion regained her momentum and showed why she’s nicknamed the “Violence Queen” as she delivered a stiff kick to the back of Riko, and followed up with a running boot to the face. She picked up her opponent and slapped her multiple times, in which Riko replied back with a slap as well. Towards the end of the match Riko hit a combination of kicks, but Nakajima would kick out on each of those kicks.

The match would end when Nakajima pinned Riko at 14 minutes and 39 seconds by using Natsuki Taiyo’s leg-capture german suplex. This victory marked Arisa Nakajima’s first successful title defense as Beyond the Sea champion in her third reign with the title. A match highly recommended to watch as it demonstrated the best of Riko Kawahata in her so-far short four year career.

After the match, Nakajima thanked Riko for the match. She mentioned that Riko reminded her a lot of joshi wrestling legend Yumiko Hotta and that like Riko, Nakajima was also inspired by Yumiko to become a pro-wrestler. She also mentioned that she would love to wrestle Riko again sometime in the future, and they both shook hands.

Nakajima continued on the microphone, issued a challenge for the Beyond the Sea tag team championships. She was interrupted by Itsuki Aoki, who were both interrupted by Ayame Sasamura and she made the challenge to Nakajima for her Beyond the Sea title. The fans were really excited to see this happen.

The champion declared that on March 20th, she would defend her championship against Ayame Sasamura. The new challenger mentioned that the Violence Queen’s champion road will come to an end with Ayame standing tall as the new champion. Nakajima closed the show by saying she looked forward to the next show on March 20th when she defends her championship against Sasamura, and thanked the fans for coming out to watch this show.

Rapid Fire Takeaways

– During the second match when La Pidita was announced, Kakeru Sekiguchi and Mei Suruga both asked who this masked wrestler was. Sekiguchi questioned if La Pidita was really her tag partner “La Luchadora” Kaho Kobayashi. Taiyo, being the referee, mentioned that “No, this is La Pidita from Mexico, this is not Kaho Kobayashi.” Of course, La Pidita was Kobayashi. Kobayashi was jokingly banned from appearing on SEAdLINNNG shows by Natsuki Taiyo previously.
– In the video tweeted by Ikuto Hidaka, Sekiguchi and Suruga mentioned to Natsuki “That’s Kaho Kobayashi, that’s not La Pidita”. To which Natsuki replied, “No this is La Pidita. La Pidita, nice to meet you.” Sekiguchi upon hearing this exited the ring and spoke to Hidaka and said “That’s Kaho Kobayashi, who is La Pidita?”.
– The third match saw a new unit was formed to combat the villainous faction “Las Fresa De Egoistas”. Right now, they don’t have a name but as is joshi tradition, it will probably be a good one.
– March 20th will be the first time that classmates Misa Kagura and Rico Kaiju will wrestle each other. It only seems appropriate that it’s for a championship.
– Ayame Sasamura made her debut in 2017. Ayame has been an underrated joshi wrestler in the scene for a while, and fans have been waiting for an opportunity where she can showcase how much she’s improved. Now Ayame has an opportunity, as she’s challenged one of the best wrestlers of the past decade in Arisa Nakajima.
