In the course of over a month, STARDOM was dealt a few blows in the form of major talent departures from the company. Mayu Iwatani and Mina Shirakawa left STARDOM recently to sign with other promotions. Maika will be absence from STARDOM indefinitely as she deals with an elbow injury. And last but not least, Tam Nakano was forced into an early retirement at the hands of World of STARDOM Champion Saya Kamitani who won a career vs. career match against the now former STARDOM superstar.
Despite the STARDOM roster being depleted, they drew 1503 fans, which was a sell out, to its latest Korakuen Hall event on May 11th in which Kamitani successfully defended her Red Belt against Sayaka Kurara in a thrilling bout.
The sold out event prompted Kamitani to declare that STARDOM is not currently in any crisis due to many top stars leaving the company. While speaking with Tokyo Sports, Kamitani gave her reasoning behind why she feels this way:
“I don’t think we’re in a crisis. Saya-sama is the Red Belt champion, so STARDOM is safe. The turnout is good, the number of families is increasing, and the number of female servants is also increasing rapidly. I’m being featured in the media, and I’m sparking a boom in women’s pro wrestling right now, right? I think I’ll keep going like this until I reach a place that no one else can reach.”
In addition, Kamitani insinuated that there is no talent in STARDOM that is on her talent level by stressing that she hopes someone comes along soon in STARDOM who can compete with her.
From Saya Kamitani:
“I hope someone comes along who can compete with me. Because Saya-sama is running on her own right now.”
Kamitani sounds overconfident and she shouldn’t underestimate the current talent pool within STARDOM. By doing so, that Red Belt could very well wind up in the possession of someone else very soon.
