The pro-wrestling world received a surprise announcement today as Utami Hayashishita revealed she would be leaving Marigold with her final match for the promotion set for May 23rd.
As per Tokyo Sports, Marigold’s owner and President Rossy Ogawa spoke to the press regarding the departure of Hayashishita and he may have had a hint of anger in his words.
Ogawa stated if Hayashishita no longer wants to be with Marigold, there is no point in trying to keep her. He stated the he doesn’t chase after those who leave.
From Rossy Ogawa:
“In a pro-wrestling promotion, if there are 10 new recruits, it’s only natural that there will be 10 people leaving or retiring. If you worry about that, you can’t run the promotion. I won’t try to keep her. After all, if she wants to leave, it means she doesn’t want to be here anymore. There’s no point in trying to keep her. We don’t chase after those who leave. But there’s no use dwelling only on the negatives. Times like these are when we must turn a crisis into an opportunity. All we can do is count on the wrestlers to give it their all.” (English translation via Deepl.com)
Marigold has been beset with departures and injuries as of late. Top stars Mayu Iwatani, Victoria Yuzuki and Erina Yamanaka are all injured and out for an extended period of time.
The loss of Utami Hayashishita is a major one for Marigold and will be tough to recover from for the promotion.
