Rossy Ogawa Admits Ryogoku Will Be Hard to Fill; Hints At Changing of Joshi Guard

By: Thom Fain

Marigold’s president tells Weekly Pro the Oct 24 show is a restart, with no WWE guest and a main event he frames as the current generation against the new one.

Marigold president Rossy Ogawa says filling Ryogoku Kokugikan for the promotion’s Oct 24 show will be hard, with NJPW running the building on Oct 13 and NOAH the day after Marigold, according to an interview published by Weekly Pro on BBM Sports. He says he will accept whatever the result is and keep moving forward.

His main event is built as a generational test. Marigold World champion Miku Aono, United National champion Victoria Yuzuki and Super Fly champion Mayu Iwatani meet in a no-time-limit survival three-way, set after an exchange of claims following the Oct 9 Korakuen Hall main event. Once the first wrestler is eliminated, the other two continue in effect as a singles match, and the winner holds all three belts. Ogawa says it will end with a decisive result and calls the first elimination a key.

Asked about the new generation’s strong run in the DREAM STAR GP 2026 singles league, led by Yuzuki, he says the current generation, Aono and Iwatani, has to stop it, and that he expects Yuzuki to come after them. The Super Fly title is normally defended under a 15-minute limit, which does not apply here.

Weekly Pro notes that three-ways rarely headline big shows, and that reaction among Japanese fans has been mixed.

I was on the call for Wrestle Universe when Aono won the World title from Utami Hayashishita at the promotion’s last Ryogoku show, on Oct 26, 2025, in front of a raucous crowd. She beat Yuzuki in the final of last year’s DREAM STAR GP to earn her shot, and has carried the promotion as its top champ all year as departures and injuries plagued the fledgling promotion.

Yuzuki took the United National title from Mai Sakurai at Grand Destiny in ’25, and she won this year’s round-robin tournament on Sept 20 over Rea Seto in the final. She earned her World title shot in the process.

Iwatani signed in May 2025 and won the Super Fly title from Yuzuki on May 24, holding the belt for over a year. She vacated the GHC Women’s title in May because of injury.

Asked about her, since she declared a grand slam as her aim on joining and has held only the Super Fly title among Marigold’s belts, Ogawa said it depends on her condition.

The interview suggested fans can expect a baton passed from the established wrestlers in their 30s to the budding stars, but Iwatani’s star power is inarguably the promotion’s biggest asset. The other is Aono, who along with Iwatani expects to prove the new generation is not ready yet, with Ogawa sure to be sitting ringside in anticipation for how things play out.

The card has eight matches.

Kouki Amarei and Chika Goto defend the Twin Star titles against Unagi Sayaka and Noa Hikari, idol Chitose Yoshino makes her ring debut, and Kizuna Tanaka return from absence, a rookie debuts, and Sakurai wrestles a final match as a Marigold member.

Ogawa says in the interview the Twin Star match looks good as a visual contest but has to prove itself in the ring. He calls Yamaoka’s return, in a tag with Yuuka Yamazaki against Komomo Minami and Nagisa Tachibana, important for Marigold’s future; Minami and Tachibana are among the younger wrestlers this tournament is designed to test. On Yoshino, Ogawa says ring announcing was discussed, but a ring appearance suits her best – the veteran promoter alluded to the popular idol’s testing of the waters by suggesting  that wrestling is not easy, and that he wants to see the fan reaction [before considering a longer term talent deal].

On Sakurai’s final match, Ogawa says he has mixed feelings but has to stand by his decision.

here is no WWE guest this time. ShuPro notes that the first two Ryogoku shows both landed WWE guests. Ogawa says the card is more varied than it looks, that the theme is showing “life-size Marigold,” and that the next two weeks are the key to how it lands.

Ogawa calls the show a restart. It is on pay-per-view streaming live on Wrestle Universe, and the boss says the past is a blank slate – and what matters is how Marigold shows its future.
