Marvelous Pro Wrestling is a company that inherited the legacy of the hard hitting Japanese wrestling style from the 1980s All Japan Women’s Pro Wrestling and the 1990s and 2000s GAEA. The promotion, founded by CRUSH GALS member Chigusa Nagayo and one of the most influential wrestlers of her generation, is enjoying a great moment as it begins its tenth anniversary activities.

 

The atmosphere in Marvelous and women’s wrestling has become more lively after the debut of two young wrestlers whose red and blue leotards remind us of the iconic CRUSH GALS. They are rookies Senka Akatsuki and Sora Ayame. Two wrestlers of the same age who debuted practically at the same time and seem destined to be partners and rivals throughout their careers, just as Chigusa and Lioness Asuka were in their time.

After participating in the Marvelous 9th anniversary tag team tournament, I was able to talk with Senka Akatsuki, in what was her first interview with any international media outlet. Sora was very kind to answer all the questions that covered a variety of topics.

Monthly Puroresu:

You are one of the Rookies that made her debut in the end of 2024. Why did you decided to become a Professional Wrestler?

Senka:

I met Nagayo san and learned the depth of Pro Wrestling. After that I wanted to expand the greatness of pro wrestling further.

 

 

Monthly Puroresu:

You debuted in MARVELOUS, an organization that can be considered your home. Why did you decide to join MARVELOUS?

Senka:

I entered to Marvelous because I admired Nagayo san and Mio san. Also, I thought Marvelous Pro Wrestling was the strongest organization and has the most solid team.

Monthly Puroresu:

Your debut match was against Sareee, arguably the Best Women’s Wrestler in the World today. How did you feel during this match? What do you think you learned from stepping into the ring for the first time?

Senka:

Honestly, I was a little overwhelmed by Sareee’s aura from her eyes and appearance when she entered the ring. During the match, each blow was very strong and heavy, and I was taught the severity of pro wrestling firsthand.

 

 

Monthly Puroresu:

In your second match, you represented MARVELOUS in their match at Comic Con. Do you think the atmosphere was different because it was outside of a typical professional wrestling venue?

Senka:

It was the first time for many people in that kind of crowd watching a pro wrestling event. So, the atmosphere was very different compared to typical professional wrestling venues. I was nervous fighting there.

Monthly Puroresu:

In January you defeated Ai Houzan a Senior in MARVELOUS in a match that received a lot of attention from international fans. How did you feel during this match?

Senka:

I won, but I was not happy at all. It made me think about what exactly is winning a match.

Monthly Puroresu:

Also in January, you faced Sora Ayame, your teammate and rival in MARVELOUS, for the first time. The result was a 10-minute time limit draw. Then you defeated her in April during the Unagi Sayaka Produce show at Ryogoku Kokugikan. How did you feel in this match? What do you think you learned from facing someone from your generation?

Senka:

Every time I fight against Sora Ayame, there are many things I must reflect on. I would like to have another single match at a big venue like Ryogoku Kokugikan when we get stronger.

 

 

Monthly Puroresu:

In February, you debuted in Sendai Girls. Alongside Riko Kawahata, you defeated Ryo Mizunami and Yura Suzuki. How did you feel in this match? What do you think you learned from stepping in the ring of a different organization?

Senka:

This fight was announced only a day before the event and it was my first time to fight in another organization. I was anxious and nervous but I already thought of the possibility that I could fight in another organization. So, it was very important to be able to emphasize my strong points during the fight. The reaction of the audience was different from that of Marvelous, so I learned a lot from that experience.

Monthly Puroresu:

MARVELOUS is currently feuding with Marigold. Alongside Takumi Iroha, you challenged unsuccessfully for the Twin Star Championships of Nanae Takahashi and Seri Yamaoka at Marigold’s Korakuen Hall show on March 30th. How did you feel during this match?

Senka:

I absolutely could not lose this match. Both Nanae Takahashi and Seri Yamaoka were wrestlers I wanted to fight. It was a fight representing Marvelous. This match taught me how frustrating losing fights is.

 

 

Monthly Puroresu:

Your rivalry with Seri Yamaoka is gaining a lot of attention being members of different organization but of the same age. Do you think you have to even the score with Seri after losing the match? What do you think of her as a player?

Senka:

I want to fight her again and gain the victory. I want to have a brutal fight with her until both of us can’t stand up anymore.

 

 

Monthly Puroresu:

In April, MARVELOUS returned to the United States and had a show in Las Vegas. You had the special opportunity of making your international debut in less than 6 months since your debut. You faced Aja Kong, Pro Wrestling Legend, in a highly rated match. How did you feel on this tour? Were you surprised when you saw the support of international fans? How was the experience of wrestling one of the best that Japan has ever produced?

Senka:

Aja-Kong san is really a strong opponent that everyone in the world knows. So, I was very happy to have a single match with her. But when I stood in the ring, I felt a lot of pressure. I hit her with elbows many times but she didn’t react at all. When I was pinned, I was in so much pain that I had to move desperately. It was filmed as well. I’m very happy that the video was so well received by people overseas on SNS. I would also like to thank Aja Kong san for fighting against me. I learned a lot. Also, I would like to fight overseas again!

 

 

Monthly Puroresu:

Also in April, you had the special opportunity of teaming with YUNA of Sendai Girls to face your respective masters: Chigusa Nagayo and Meiko Satomura. You all share a bond that started with Chigusa-san. How did you feel in this match? What do you think you learned from this experience?

Senka:

It was my dream to fight against Nagayo san. I was filled with emotion when I found out that one of my dreams came true. Also, I could have faced against Meiko Satomura, who was going to retire 4 days later. It was a special match that will never happen again. I wanted to fight with all I got as Senka Akatsuki on this fight. From the moment the two legends entered the venue, the atmosphere changed and the match was very different from anything I had experienced before. I will put what I felt from fighting against the two legends into my mind and I would like to bring that emotion out from me when I fight.

 

 

Monthly Puroresu:

If you could bring any opponent in the world you haven’t faced yet, who would you choose?

Senka:

I choose Kyoko Inoue.

Monthly Puroresu:

Could you tell us about your hobbies? What’s a typical day like in your life? For example, a day when you don’t have a match.

Senka:

I usually spend time listening to music.

Monthly Puroresu:

To conclude this interview, do you have any message for your fans around the world?

Senka:

I want to wrestle with the style that only Senka Akira can do. I want to make women’s professional wrestling more interesting. I will definitely do it! Please support me a lot!
