The Marigold era of Mayu Iwatani has officially begun. On May 4th, Iwatani made her Marigold debut at Korakuen Hall as she faced Nanae Takahashi in a Passion Countdown match. After a thrilling match that lasted nearly 30 minutes, Iwatani was able to put Takahashi away with a Huracanrana pin to secure the victory. This was one of Takahashi’s final matches as she will be retiring on May 20th.
Iwatani signed with Marigold on May 1st after leaving STARDOM following a 14 year 3 month run with the company. The signing, which is Marigold’s biggest by far, has instantly shown positive results. The attendance at the May 4th Marigold Korakuen Hall event was tallied at 1210 fans. In comparison, the last Marigold Korakuen event on April 25th drew 680 fans.
Takahashi broke down into tears following her loss to Iwatani. As a show of respect, Iwatani, apologized to Takahashi for previously calling her an old nuisance.”
After the match ended, the current Marigold Super Fly Champion Victoria Yuzuki entered the ring and proceeded to nominate Iwatani as her next challenger. Iwatani accepted after asking why Yuzuki, as the champion, came to the ring without her belt.
A date for the match between Victoria Yuzuki & Maya Iwatani for the Marigold Super Fly Championship has not yet been set.
