Mayu Iwatani Retains The GHC Women’s Title At Pro Wrestling NOAH’s Monday Magic

The final episode of Pro Wrestling NOAH’s “MONDAY MAGIC RISING SUN SEASON” took place on Feb. 9th at Shinjuku FACE in Tokyo.

For the past two weeks on Monday Magic, Great Sakuya had made it clear that she wanted a shot at the GHC Women’s Title currently held by Mayu Iwatani.

Great Sakuya received her opportunity on Feb. 9th as she challenged Iwatani for the title in the main event of Monday Magic. This was Iwatani’s second defense of the GHC Women’s Championship which she has held since Jan. 3rd.

It wasn’t easy but Iwatani denied Sakuya the distinction of becoming the fourth GHC Women’s Champion and she did it in very clever fashion.

Sakuya was about to spray her trademark green mist into the face of Iwatani but it was countered when Iwatani sucked the mist out of Sakuya and used it against her.

Iwatani followed that up with a moonsault press for the pinfall victory. The champion addressed the crowd and her challenger following her successful title defense.

Good evening to everyone who came to MONDAY MAGIC! Thank you all so very much for being here today! I have appeared on MONDAY MAGIC before, but today was my first title match here. My first time facing Great Sakuya… it was delicious! At the same time, I certainly felt her strength.Well, in the end, I only won because I cheated. If we ever fight again, I want to win fair and square next time, so please come back to challenge me whenever you like. And I hope to experience all kinds of magic in this MONDAY MAGIC ring alongside this belt, so please continue to support MONDAY MAGIC! Today I am the main event among all these famous people. Does MONDAY MAGIC have some kind of usual closing phrase? …Ah, looks like not. But, you know. Since it is the main event, we should probably close it out. Does anyone have any good ideas? What could it be, maybe something like ‘Mondays are, MONDAY MAGIC!’? Is that okay? All right everyone, I will say ‘Mondays are!’ so I want everyone to shout, ‘MONDAY MAGIC!’ in a loud voice! In other action, the 21 day GHC Hardcore Championship reign of Titus Alexander came to an end as he lost the title to Masato Tanaka. The win made Tanaka a two-time GHC Hardcore Champion.

• 4 Way Match: HAYATA defeated Dragon Bane, Eita & Archie Cole (6:49) by Modified Pinfall against Cole.
• Galeno, Chase Emery, Iker Navarro & Danny Duggan defeated Izzy James, Nathan de Wind, Rich Port Ayala & Soda Pop (9:58) when Navarro Ayala pinned.
• Kaito Kiyomiya & Alejandro defeated BUSHI & RYUSEI (11:34) after a Shining Wizard of Kiyomiya against RYUSEI.
• GHC Women’s Title: Mayu Iwatani (c) defeated Great Sakuya (14:15) with a Moonsault Press (2nd defense).
