Mayu Iwatani Gives Update On Her Broken Toe, Says She Is Getting An MRI On Her Shoulder

By: Lewis Carlan

On April 11th, Marigold superstar Mayu Iwatani broke her big toe in two places while competing in a tag team bout at Marigold Spring Victory Series 2026. The injury kept her out of action for nearly a month and, despite not being fully healed, she participated in the Marvelous 10th Anniversary Commemorative Event on May 5th .

At the Marvelous 10th Anniversary Commemorative Event, Iwatani teamed with Rin in her retirement match as they defeated Itsuki Aoki & Mio Momomo.

The injury bug has seemed to affect Iwatani quite a bit lately. Prior to breaking her toe, Iwatani injured her ankle on March 29th which kept her out out action for a few days. Now, Iwatani has revealed on X that she will be getting an MRI on her shoulder next week as she believes she has partially dislocated it.

In addition, Iwatani gave an update on her broken toe and showed a recent X ray which clearly shows the break. She indicated it will take a while before she is fully healed.

From Mayu Iwatani:

X-rays taken four days ago. It looks like it’s going to take a while yet! Don’t worry—it doesn’t feel like the injury got worse at Rin-chan’s retirement match at all. I’m getting an MRI of my shoulder next week. I think my shoulder subluxated at the exact moment I broke my thumb, and it hurts a lot more than my leg, but the X-rays showed no abnormalities! Please be patient. (English translation via Deepl.com)

Mayu Iwatani is currently the Marigold Superfly Champion and the GHC Women’s Champion. She is expected to be out of action for an extended period of time.

Everyone at Monthly Puroresu hopes that Mayu Iwatani over comes her injuries, has a speedy recovery and is back in the ring very soon.
