Mari Wins the AWG Single Championship

The Brilliant Rose has been dethroned after holding the belt for nine months with six title defences to her name

In the main event of tonight’s AWG ACTwrestling show at Korakuen Hall, Mari Sakamoto pinned “The Brilliant Rose” Miku Aono to win the AWG Single title.

This marks the first championship reign in the Red Shadow’s career, which began over seven years ago when she debuted as part of REINA promotion. Mari has been a fixture of AWG in both its previous era as a traditional pro wrestling company and its subsequent relaunch and rebranding as actresses performing in a show.

Since 2022, Mari has taken on many behind-the-scenes duties, including training the large rookie roster, and is considered by many to be the heart and soul of the promotion. She is the second AWG Singles Champion, with previous champion Miku Aono winning the title on March 12 against Kouki in the finals of the AWG Singles Tournament.

AWG will be appearing on AJPW’s New Year’s Giant Series 2024 at Korakuen Hall and will have their first show of the year at Shin-Kiba 1st RING with ACTwrestling Step 28.
