At only 22 years old, New Japan Pro-Wrestling star Kosei Fujita is the youngest man to win the Best of the Super Juniors tournament. He accomplished this feat back on June 1st at the 32nd edition of the prestigious competition.
With his big victory, Fujita has now earned a shot at the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Championship held by El Desperado. While Fujita would like to face Desperado for the title, he may very well be facing Jun Kasai instead.
On June 24th at Korakuen Hall, Desperado will defend his title against Kasai in what is expected to be a brutal encounter.
Prior to this match being made official, Fujita took part in a press conference that included Desperado.
Fujita claimed to be five to ten times stronger now than he was during his Feb. 2025 IWGP Jr Heavyweight Championship opportunity against Desperado in which he was defeated.
Fujita pointed out that he isn’t intimidated by Desperado and needs the IWGP Jr Heavyweight Champion to be 100% focused on him and him alone.
From Kosei Fujita:
(About being five, ten times stronger) That isn’t about having a bunch of new moves or anything like that but having confidence and self belief in the moves I have. I’m not rattled or intimidated (by Desperado) at all, and that’s why I want him 100% focused on me.’
Fujita acknowledged that he may be facing Jun Kasai for the title and said he would go into that match with the same confidence.
From Kosei Fujita:
“Desperado is my first choice, but there are no absolutes. If it ends up being Kasai, I’ll take him on with the same confidence.”
To wrap up his time at the press conference, Fujita had this closing statement:
“I’ve said it since the day I started, I want to let my actions do the talking, That’s the attitude I’ve had, and with that I’ve had results that speak for themselves as well.”
Fujita hopes to become the youngest competitor to ever win the IWGP Jr Heavyweight Championship. He will gets his shot to accomplish this goal but he will have to wait and see if his opportunity will be against El Desperado or Jun Kasai.
