As Japan moves on from the pandemic, more and more upstart wrestling promotions are arising and pushing the creative boundaries of puroresu, as we’ve seen with 2point5 Dimension from Osaka last year. Now, a new ambitious and unprecedented project seeks to mesh the action of kaiju stories with the live excitement of puroresu.
Thirty-year veteran wrestler, musician, deathmatch expert and kaiju aficionado Raijin Yaguchi led a press conference to announce the foundation of Kaiju Pro-Wrestling, Inc. Accompanied by several partners, including urban legend critic and researcher Bintaro Yamaguchi and former NJPW referee Mr. Takahashi, Yaguchi announced the promotion will feature actual kaiju designs made by monster and doll maker, Kazumitsu Akamatsu.

Yaguchi explained that the world “Kaiju” holds massive significance all over the world, and the Japanese style of professional wrestling is quite popular around the world too. The goal is to fuse both universes and present actual kaiju battles on a wrestling ring. A Berklee College of Music graduate as well, Yaguchi wants to fuel this universe with his creative artistry, and has plotted the dynamics in the project.
With the story portion of the kaiju monsters presented in pre-taped video form, the matches will indeed take place in front of a live audience. The stories will not only feature the giant beasts, but also aliens from outer space, demons, genetically and technologically modified humans, as well as organic humans composing an “Earth Defense Force” team that will fight all these supernatural threats.
