Junya Matsunaga Retains the ZERO1 World Heavyweight Title at the Yamanashi Pro Wrestling Festival

Pro Wrestling ZERO1 World Heavyweight Champion Junya Matsunaga successfully defended his title on August 30th, defeating Koji Doi at the promotion’s Yamanashi Pro Wrestling Festival at the Kose Sports Park Gymnasium Sub Arena in Yamanashi.

Matsunaga and Doi battled for ZERO1’s top prize in the main event with both men looking to show out and prove themselves in the aftermath of the Fire Festival tournament.

After nearly twenty-two minutes, Matsunaga was able to put away Doi with his Bee Sting finisher, securing his first successful defense of the title that he won back in April.

Elsewhere on the card, Masato Tanaka was victorious in his final match before undergoing surgery for bilateral cubital tunnel syndrome next month. Tanaka and partner Hide Kubota defeated Hyo Ogawa and Ryunosuke Nagai in just over thirteen minutes following Tanaka’s Sliding D to Ogawa.

ZERO1 action returns on September 5th when the promotion makes its way back to TOKYOSQUARE in Itabashi. The event will include Hayabusa vs. Yuki Toki, Katsuhiko Nakajima vs. Bryan Ishizaka, and a special tag team match between Junya Matsunaga and Ryunosuke Nagai taking on CIMA and So Daimonji.
