IYO SKY Discloses What It Would Take For Thunder Rock Reunion With Mayu Iwatani

At Marigold GRAND DESTINY 2025 on October 26th, WWE superstar IYO SKY defeated “Icon” Mayu Iwatani in a highly anticipated bout that lived up to all it’s expectations.

Before IYO SKY left STARDOM to join the WWE seven years ago, she, then Io Shirai, teamed with Mayu Iwatani as they were known as Thunder Rock. The two are former Goddesses of STARDOM Champions while teaming together as Thunder Rock back in 2018.

Following their epic battle at GRAND DESTINY 2025, Mayu Iwatani planted the seeds for a potential Thunder Rock reunion with IYO SKY.

From Mayu Iwatani:

“I’ve already fully understood IYO-san’s strength in today’s match, so next time, if there is a next time, I want to create a new history in this era as Thunder Rock.”

Now SKY has weighed in on a potential Thunder Rock reunion with Iwatani.

First, SKY had this to say during her post-match backstage comments on Oct. 26th.

From IYO SKY:

“Well, just like I didn’t think this match would happen, but it did, in pro-wrestling, there’s no such thing as ‘never.’ So, I think it’s nice that the dream can continue, don’t you?”

In addition, SKY spoke with Tokyo Sports and revealed what it would take for reunion to occur.

From IYO SKY:

“Mayu said that this ring is like family to me as well, which were words that made me very happy. So, if the opportunity is provided, and if my boss, Triple H, gives his permission, then absolutely. I guess I’m always in an ‘I’m ready’ state.”

While it’s extremely desirable to see IYO SKY and Mayu Iwatani join forces once again as Thunder Rock, fans shouldn’t expect such a reunion to happen for a long period of time if it happens at all. This is due to SKY’s commitments to the WWE.

That said, Marigold GRAND DESTINY 2026 would be a perfect time to see Thunder Rock come together once again as a team. If anyone can make it happen, it’s Rossy Ogawa.
