DDT Judgement Celebrates the Promotion’s 29th Anniversary with 5 Hour Spectacular

By Noah Leatherland

DDT celebrated their 29th anniversary with an incredibly stacked card in Korakuen Hall. Amongst the major five hour event was a selection of top title matches and the type of theatrics only DDT can deliver.

DDT’s newest faction, paleyouth, made their first defence of the KO-D Six Man Tag Team Titles. Takeshi Masada, Yuya Koroku and Daichi Sato put their belts on the line against the trio of Naomi Yoshimura, Ryota Nakatsu & Yuki Ishida. Despite their relative inexperience as a unit, paleyouth showed excellent team synergy in the bout.

paleyouth retained their titles, but were quickly met by Fantomes Dramatic as their next challengers. The bout is set for April 15th.

Konosuke Takeshita was back in DDT for a special singles match against Kazuki Hirata. When Takeshita won that in 7 seconds, an immediate rematch was added to the card. Takeshita won that in 10 seconds. A third match was then started, under the rules that Takeshita needed to score a 20-count on a pin, while Hirata only needed 2.

Despite the clear stipulation advantage, Hirata once again lost to Takeshita. Following Takeshita’s win, he was announced for another big marquee singles match. At Wrestle Peter Pan on August 11th, Takeshita will go one-on-one with Kaisei Takechi.

The DDT Universal Title was on the line as Daisuke Sasaki defended against Kazuma Sumi. The bout contained all kinds of madness, including foreign objects, ringside brawls, interference and dazzling high-flying displays.

Sumi emerged as the victor, unseating Sasaki as the DDT Universal Champion. Basking in the victory, Sumi took the chance to name his first challenger, Shunma Katsumata. Earlier in the show, Katsumata made his official return from injury, losing to MAO. The match is set for April 18th.

The main event saw Yuki Ueno defend the KO-D Openweight Title against KANON. With the top prize in DDT on the line, both men gave it their absolute all.

After battling for over 25 minutes, Ueno finally landed the WR and put his challenger away. Ueno would not get the opportunity to celebrate the win for long, as Yuki Iino appeared to call his shot at the title. The match is set to take place in Korakuen Hall on April 15th.
