A New Era Begins: An Interview With BJW World Strong Heavyweight Champion Kazumasa Yoshida

By: Lewis Carlan

Kazumasa Yoshida made his Big Japan Pro-Wrestling debut back on April 17th 2021 when faced Hiroyuki Suzuki in an exhibition match which ended in a ten minute draw.

Since his debut bout, Yoshida was known as a young pro-wrestler with world championship potential. Yoshida rose the ranks with his sights set on the BJW World Strong Heavyweight Championship.

After a few unsuccessful attempts at winning BJW’s top championship that goes back 2023, Kazumasa Yoshida achieved his biggest career accomplishment on April 29th 2026 when he defeated Daimonji So for the BJW World Strong Heavyweight Championship.

With his championship win, Yoshida has ushered in a new era for BJW and he seems ready to lead the promotion as its top champion.

Monthly Puroresu caught up with Kazumasa Yoshida fresh off his BJW World Strong Heavyweight Championship win for a special interview.

Here is the Monthly Puroresu interview with the BJW World Strong Heavyweight Champion Kazumasa Yoshida:

Monthly Puroresu:
Congratulations on becoming the BJW World Strong Heavyweight Champion. What was going through your mind on April 29th right after you won the championship belt from Daimonji So?

Kazumasa Yoshida:
A sense of relief after successfully headlining a big match.

Monthly Puroresu:
On January 31st, you were unsuccessful in capturing the BJW World Strong Heavyweight Title from Daimonji So. Was there a way you approached the April 29th bout any differently which led you to victory?

Kazumasa Yoshida:
If I had to say, it might be thanks to the singles match against Kankuro Hoshino at the Yokohama Nigiwaiza event on April 24th. It solidified my resolve.

Monthly Puroresu:
Did you doing anything special after the match to celebrate your huge championship win?

Kazumasa Yoshida:
We had a victory celebration at the dojo.

Monthly Puroresu:
BJW Big Japan 31 Beyond the Survivor at the Yokohama Budokan had a large crowd in attendance. How do you prepare yourself mentally for such a big event and is it different from how you prepare yourself at a smaller venue?

Kazumasa Yoshida:
For some reason, I wasn’t very nervous. I was in a good mental state.

Monthly Puroresu:
How do you plan to lead BJW now that you are in possession of the top title in BJW?

Kazumasa Yoshida:
I haven’t really thought about it much. There are opponents I want to face, so I’d like to have matches with them if possible.

Monthly Puroresu:
What is your opinion of Daimonji So as a competitor?

Kazumasa Yoshida:
He’s a fantastic wrestler. I came to feel that way through our long-running feud.

Monthly Puroresu:
There are many top competitors such as Daichi Hashimoto, Hideyoshi Kamitani and others that will be looking to challenge you for your BJW World Strong Heavyweight Title. How do you cope with knowing you now have a target on your back?

Kazumasa Yoshida:
I don’t feel like I’m being targeted. But I think the time to face them will come, so I’ll prepare for it.

Monthly Puroresu:
You have been competing with BJW since 2021, what led you to BJW?

Kazumasa Yoshida:
During the COVID-19 pandemic, I wanted to join a promotion quickly. Since it said they accepted applicants over 175 cm tall who passed the initial screening, I chose Big Japan Pro-Wrestling.

Monthly Puroresu:
What was it about pro-wrestling that made you decided to pursue it as a full-time career?

Kazumasa Yoshida:
When it was time for college students to look for jobs, I thought it would be boring to just get a regular job, so I chose to pursue my passion for pro wrestling.

Monthly Puroresu:
You recently wrestled in Taiwan representing BJW. What was the experience like competing in Taiwan?

Kazumasa Yoshida:
The atmosphere in Taiwan is different from Japan’s, and the fans’ passion was incredible. I’d love to go back.

Monthly Puroresu:
Are there any other overseas locations that you would like to compete in?

Kazumasa Yoshida:
Germany and the U.S., for example. There are a lot of Japanese wrestlers doing well there, so I’d like to go too.

Monthly Puroresu:
In a recent social media post, you stated that you love pro-wrestling. What is it about pro-wrestling that you love?

Kazumasa Yoshida:
I started thinking that way after I began working as a driver. Taking a step back from pro wrestling helped me realize just how much I enjoy the moments when I’m actually wrestling.

Monthly Puroresu:
What is a typical day for you when you are not competing in the ring?

Kazumasa Yoshida:
I get to work around 6 a.m. and drive until about 4 p.m. After that, I hit the gym to work out, go home, eat dinner, and go to sleep.

Monthly Puroresu:
In your second exhibition bout back in April 2021, you wrestled Yuji Okabayashi to a 10-minute draw. What do you remember about being in the ring with Okabayashi?

Kazumasa Yoshida:
I don’t really remember. Now that you mention it, I have a vague sense that something like that happened. I just remember being really scared.

Monthly Puroresu:
Final question – Where do you see yourself five years from now?

Kazumasa Yoshida:
I don’t know. I’m excited about everything, including whether I’ll still be wrestling by then.

Fans can watch BJW content on the promotion’s official YouTube channel and BJW Core.

Monthly Puroresu would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Big Japan Pro-Wrestling for facilitating this interview with Kazumasa Yoshida.
