The third installment of TJPW’s Max Heart Tournament will hold its final match on February 11th at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo. Miyu Yamashita, who also currently holds the Pro Wrestling EVE Championship, joins her 121000000 tag team partner, Maki Itoh. Together, they will be up against the Kyoraku Kyogen tandme of Shoko Nakajima and Hyper Misao.
As we have previously reported last month, Miyu attempted to win a triple crown amongst the U.K., U.S. and Japan, by competing against Yuka Sakazaki and Athena for the TJPW Princess of Princess and ROH Women’s Championships respectively. The latter match ended in controversial fashion, after a very much questioned decision by the referee.

“I had the chance to be a triple champion in January, and I really wanted to make it happen. But I had lost both Ittenyon and ROH, and couldn’t defend my title at EVE because of the cancelled trip, so it did get me down to see how my life didn’t seem to be going so well. But even though I was defeated by Yuka during our match at Ittenyon, I’m happy about it.”
“For my match against Athena at ROH, I really thought I had the win, but the referee decided differently and I lost instead. January was really a month where I felt like nothing was going as smoothly as I wanted. I have not been fighting with Maki (Itoh) as a team for a while now, but with the tag team tournament approaching, I can’t think of a better partner. And because we haven’t won any belts as 121000000 yet, we’re going to make that our goal as a team,” Miyu told Yahoo! Japan.
“Maki and I don’t interact outside the ring, but in the ring, we get along very well. I don’t think about developing a deeper personal relationship with her, but we really make the best professional partners. Neither of us really take our relationship beyond that. I think we just fit together naturally, and have the same sense of professionalism, and that’s the perfect approach for the both of us.”

空手組は良かったね、楽しかった!
でも正直、まだ全然余裕あった。伊藤麻希の50%も出してないよ。決勝はどんな事が待ってるかな?

In the tournament’s second round, held at Otemachi Mitsui Hall in Tokyo on January 15th, Miyu and Maki had defeated Free WiFi (Hikari Noa and Naho Tsunoda), which came as a pleasant surprise for the winners, having stayed away from each other for quite some time at that point. “We’ve been separated from each other lately — both our main focus is on singles after all, so we’re not a tag team all the time. Strangely, I think this approach is our strength. It fits both our characters. When we form our tag team for tournaments, we each take what we’ve gained from our experience in singles and put it together, and that gives us an advantage. I was really surprised to find the extent of what we have in common. I hadn’t experienced that often, and because we were able to come together like that, I felt that we had grown as a team,” Miyu said.
“That being said, we don’t have many joint moves. As a tag team, teamwork is of course important, but instead of taking a ‘Go team!’ approach where the team takes precedence, we really respect each other as individuals. We’re able to come together without compromising our individual styles and that brings out the strength in the both of us, I think.”
At the semifinals, held on January 29th, the duo emerged victorious after a competitive match against the karate tag team comprised of Moka Miyamoto and Juria Nagano.
“We got pushed around a lot, and those two kept coming straight at us, so I was happy about that and had fun competing against them. That said, we can’t lose yet. I think we pushed through.”

“I think we’ll need to be very careful when we face the karate tag team again in six months or a year. Those two beat Daisy Monkey (“Dejimon,” Suzume and Arisu Endo) before that, which I thought was a very impressive feat. Dejimon’s growth so far has also been amazing. I was really curious to see who would rise to the top, and the fact that those two had won was proof of their strength. Them beating Dejimon at that point in time, they really showed their strength.”
