Ryohei Oiwa Issues a Challenge to AEW Superstar MJF, MJF States He’ll Fight Oiwa Anywhere

The war of words between New Japan Pro-Wrestling star Ryohei Oiwa and All Elite Wrestling superstar MJF has reached a fever pitch.

It all began back on Aug. 16th when Oiwa accomplished the greatest feat of his young career when he defeated Yuya Uemura to win the prestigious G1 Climax 36 tournament. Oiwa won the bout after forcing Uemura to tap out to his The Big Lock headlock.

Following, Oiwa’s victory, MJF took to X and stated that he was the superior headlock wrestler. While being interview by Tokyo Sports, Oiwa responded by challenging MJF to bring his headlock to next year’s G1 Climax tournament. Oiwa indicated that with MJF in the G1, he would take the AEW star down with a headlock. MJF declined Oiwa’s invitation by stating, in true MJF fashion, “Tell that f**king dork Oiwa he’d be lucky to lace my boots let alone meet me in a ring.”

After a cooling off period for a few days, the intense war of words exploded last night as the two stars went at it again on X.

It all started when MJF praised Adam Brooks, who was wrestling a match for ROH, by saying that Brooks was better than all New Japan talent especially Oiwa. Oiwa fired right back by stating if MJF was too scared to compete in next year’s G1 Climax tournament, he would come to AEW. Oiwa issued a challenge to MJF to see who the number one headlock wrestler was.

From Ryohei Oiwa:

“Don’t mess with New Japan. If you’re scared to compete in next year’s G1, I’ll come right over to your ring myself. Let’s decide who’s the No. 1 headlock wrestler.” (English translation via Deepl.com)

Naturally, MJF was not going to let this challenge go by without a response and the former three time AEW World Champion didn’t hold back as he unleashed a tirade aimed at Oiwa.

From MJF:

“Nobody knows who you are in America, chief. You’re a boy talking to a man who is the best professional wrestler in the WORLD. Don’t chat me up about your shitty little mark tournament. I’ll fight you anywhere. And I’ll beat you with a headlock takeover.”

This developing feud between Ryohei Oiwa and MJF is just getting started and the anticipation for a match between the two is steadily increasing. It should be just a matter of time before we see Oiwa vs. MJF inside either an AEW or NJPW ring.
