Tokyo Joshi Pro’s “Fired Idol” is one of the most beloved characters in joshi puroresu. The last few months have vindicated her self-worth, having won the International Princess championship from Hikari Noa on TJPW’s annual January 4th show before heading overseas to Prestige Wrestling to defend the title against IMPACT’s Mia Yim and having another classic match against longstanding rival Miyu Yamashita.
Itoh would return to All Elite Wrestling as the mystery “Joker” against Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D in the first-round of the inaugeral women’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament, and showing to the world why she is the so-called “cutest in the world”. She had previously appeared in AEW as part of the Women’s Title Eliminator Tournament in addition to being Britt Baker’s surprise tag team partner at Revolution 2021, replacing Rebel, successfully defeating Thunder Rosa and Riho.

She may not have been the idol singer that she wished she could have been in the mainstream, but she still sings her way to the ring as a lovable icon of Japanese wrestling and her improvement in the ring in the last year has given her an undeniable status as one of Tokyo Joshi Pro’s best; not just in-ring but characters as well – putting on emotionally driven stories and fantastic exchanges, lending her a Tokyo Princess Cup win and an admirable follower count across social media platforms.
Maki Itoh may have haters, she may have adoring fans, but one thing she does have for sure, is a reason to watch her matches.
