“Mr. Forbidden Door” Zack Sabre Jr. Gets Kenny Omega For NJPW vs. AEW Dream Match

Kenny Omega and Zack Sabre Jr. went face to face on AEW Dynamite this Wednesday, raising the temperature on a Forbidden Door collision between two former IWGP World Heavyweight Champions that has been eight years in the making.

The two men are booked to meet at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door on June 28 — their first singles match since Omega defeated Sabre Jr. in the 2018 G1 Climax, and the first time the two have ever met on American soil. The confrontation on Dynamite followed ZSJ picking up a convincing submission win over Jack Perry earlier in the evening.

Both men held the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship during landmark stretches of the past decade. Omega’s reign spanned multiple Bullet Club storylines at the height of his NJPW run; Sabre Jr. captured the IWGP title in 2024 and 2025 as one of NJPW’s most technically gifted athletes in its storied history.

The two first met in singles action in 2013 on the Indies.

Forbidden Door 2026 takes place June 28 at the SAP Center in San Jose. The full card also includes Kenny Omega vs. Zack Sabre Jr., Will Ospreay vs. Swerve Strickland in the Owen Hart Foundation Men’s Final, and Mercedes Moné vs. Maya World in the Owen Hart Foundation Women’s Final among the highlights of the annual intercontinental supershow.
