NJPW Best of the Super Juniors Day 11 Sets Up Tight Race for Final Day of Block Action

By Noah Leatherland

The NJPW Best of the Super Juniors tournament is rapidly reaching its conclusion. All combatants competed in Korakuen Hall on the penultimate day of block action, setting up a very tense leaderboard heading into the final day.

For everyone hoping to put themselves into a good position for the final day of block action, 10 was the magic number. Heading into the event, Master Wato and Titan led A Block on 10 points, while El Desperado did the same in B Block. Several men were close behind on 8 points, and a win in Korakuen Hall would go a long way to keeping them in contention.

Those three block leaders all fumbled their chance to draw ahead heading into Day 12. Master Wato was thwarted by the violent stylings of Jun Kasai, with Kasai rising up to 10 points himself with that victory. Titan could not overcome TMDK’s Kosei Fujita, stalling his tournament hopes and giving Fujita the chance to rise to 10 points as well. Then, in the main event, El Desperado could not put away YOH. YOH’s win also moved him up to 10 points.

Elsewhere on the card, others reached the 10 point total to add even more jeopardy to the block standings.

Robbie X picked up a win over the winless Daiki Nagai, moving him up to 10 points. Francesco Akira reached 10 points following a quick encounter with Ryusuke Taguchi. SHO and Daisuke Sasaki collided in a weapon and interference-filled bout, that ended with SHO securing the win and boosting his total to 10 points. AEW’s Nick Wayne managed to overcome CMLL’s Valiente Jr. in an all-outsider match to reach ten points. Robbie Eagles picked up a win over Jakob Austin Young, thanks in part to Hartley Jackson carrying Zane Jay to the back to stop any interference. Then, Taiji Ishimori put Dragongate’s Hyo down for the count to reach 10 points.

As a result, everyone on 10 points has a chance to come out of Day 12 tomorrow on top of their block leaderboard.
