On May 6th, Yota Tsuji earned the right to challenge for Callum Newman’s IWGP Heavyweight Title after pinning the champion in a special tag match at NEW JAPAN ROAD in KARATSU: IGNITION to DOMINION.
After successfully defending the IWGP Heavyweight Title against Shingo Takagi on Night 2 of Wrestling DONTAKU 2026, Callum Newman challenged Tsuji and Takagi to a tag team match, with the stipulation that if Newman and Jake Lee win, neither Tsuji nor Takagi can challenge for the the championship while Newman holds it. However, if either Tsuji or Takagi pin the champion, they will earn a shot at the IWGP Title at DOMINION on June 14th.
In the main event of IGNITION to DOMINION, the Unbound duo of Tsuji and Takagi wasted no time getting the jump on the United Empire, attacking the champion before the bell.
Tsuji and Takagi refused to be bound by Newman’s stipulation. In the closing moments of the match, Takagi would take out Jake Lee with his Pumping Bomber lariat, leaving Tsuji to hit a Gene Blaster on Newman for the win in just under 19 minutes, making Tsuji the next challenger for the IWGP Heavyweight Title.
Yota Tsuji will get the opportunity to challenge Callum Newman for the IWGP Heavyweight Title at New Japan Pro Wrestling’s DOMINION in Osaka-Jo Hall on June 14th.
