The sixth leg of NJPW on the Road to The New Beginning took place in Korakuen Hall, with the big event in Osaka coming in just over a week. On this night in Tokyo, the NEVER Openweight Six Man Tag Team Champions faced their upcoming challengers in singles action.
Boltin Oleg and Hartley Jackson were up first in the trio of matches. It took barely any time at all for the two hulks to go off the rails. Seconds after the opening bell, the Oleg and Jackson took their brawl into the stands of Korakuen Hall.
The battle of the big men ended in favour of Hontai as Oleg scored the pin over Jackson.
Next, the leader of TMDK, Zack Sabre Jr., stepped into the ring with YOSHI-HASHI. YOSHI-HASHI took the fight to the former IWGP Heavyweight Champion for over 20 minutes, but in the end, Sabre Jr. emerged victorious.
With the score level, the pressure was on in the main event between Hirooki Goto and Ryohei Oiwa. The NJPW veteran proved too much for his younger opponent, as Goto landed a GTR to put an end to Oiwa’s evening. As a result, Hontai stood tall at the end of the night, winning the series 2-1 and picking up some major momentum heading into the title match. NJPW The New Beginning in Osaka takes place on February 11th.
