New Japan Announces New Japan Cup Schedule, Due To Start on March 7

New Japan Pro-Wrestling has officially announced the schedule for next year’s New Japan Cup, with the tournament beginning in March.

By: James Carlin

The New Japan Cup will return in 2024 with NJPW releasing the tournament schedule on their website. This year’s edition will run from March 7 to March 20th as a two-week tournament starting at Korakuen Hall and ending with the finals at City Hall Plaza Aore Nagaoka.

Since the establishment of the tournament in 2005, only Hirooki Goto has won the tournament three times, whilst Hiroshi Tanahashi, Yuji Nagata, Zack Sabre Jr., and Kazuchika Okada have all won twice. Sabre Jr., won the tournament in 2022, which had a record 48 participants, although he did not win his title challenge against IWGP World Heavyweight champion Kazuchika Okada.

SANADA won last year’s New Japan Cup, giving him the right to face Okada for the IWGP World Heavyweight title, successfully defeating him at Sakura Genesis to become the new champion. He will defend his championship against Tetsuya Naito next week at Wrestle Kingdom 18.
