About Us

Otaku USA Magazine

Otaku USA is a thick, full-color magazine featuring comprehensive coverage of manga, anime, videogames and Japanese pop culture written from an American point of view. Otaku USA also publishes 32 pages of the hottest manga previews from the top publishers. Because Otaku USA is an independent US magazine, not a licensed product owned by those with an vested interest in a particular line of comics, anime, manga, games or movies, it presents the reader with objective coverage.

Web Otaku

WEB OTAKU USA is the online component of Otaku USA magazine, and is the perfect compliment to the magazine.

WEB OTAKU provides in-depth coverage by expanding on stories in the magazine, along with daily updates of what’s hot in Japanese pop culture, additional manga chapters, game coverage, interviews with artists and writers too extensive to fit in print pages, writing contests, drawing contests, web-only reviews and tips, reader forums and an online community program, bringing an immediacy to the market that has never before been seen.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How can I subscribe to Otaku USA Magazine?

A: The easiest method is via our online subscription form, but you can also order by phone at 800-219-1187.

Q: How long does it take to get your first issue after you subscribe?

A: You should receive your first magazine within 3-4 weeks, usually less. If you don’t, please call our subscription services number at 800-219-1187 and they will set things right for you.

Q: I am missing an issue/need to change my address???

A: The best recourse is to call our customer service number at 800-219-1187.

Q: It’s been a month since the last issue, where is the new one? Did I miss it!?

A: Otaku USA has always been a bi-monthly magazine,  meaning it comes out once every 2 months.

Q: When is the new issue coming out?

A: An easy trick to find out is to look at the bottom right of the cover on the most recent issue you have. Under the barcode it should say “Retailer Display Until…”; the date listed here is when the next issue is scheduled to appear in stores.

Q:  You guys used to be Newtype, right?

A: Nope, we were never affiliated with Newtype at all. By pure coincidence, we began publication in 2007, about a year before Newtype went under. Because our magazine was new to the scene with a similar styling to Newtype, many assumed it was a successor by former Newtype staff. That is not the case, and Otaku USA has always published independently from any licensor or publisher of anime or manga.

Q: How come my magazine says “June” on the cover even though it’s only April?

Magazine issues are titled for the latest possible time they will be on the newsstand, so they don’t appear old. Therefore, since Otaku USA is bi-monthly and sits store shelves for two months before the next one arrives, the issue is titled for two months ahead.
