Yuki Arai Celebrates Wrestling Anniversary with Optimism After Loss

By: J. Curbelo

It’s exciting and chaotic times for idol wrestler Yuki Arai as she has passed her second year as a professional wrestler, just days away from turning 25 years old. Unfortunately, she couldn’t celebrate with a victory, as the reunited MiraClians duo of Yuka Sakazaki and Shoko Nakajima defeated her and Maki Itoh at last night’s Yes! Wonderland ’23.

Itoh and Arai, originally rivals at the latter’s early ventures in wrestling, were unfazed by the challenge of two of TJPW’s most prolific competitors and former Princess of Princess Champions. It was that courage that allowed them to dominate their opponents and corner them as they had the crowd at Korakuen Hall in the palm of their hands, acknowledging them as the cutest in the world and the cutest in the idol world, respectively.

Unfortunately, all the show-womanship was for naught, as it awakened Yuka Sakazaki’s fiercest and most relentless mindset. The struggle between the veterans and the idols was consistently competitive, but Sakazaki grew more and more fed up with her opponents, ultimately hitting Arai with the Magical Merry-Go-Round to earn the win.

Despite the loss, and Sakazaki’s ruthless attitude, it was a joyous event as the veteran praised Arai and thanked her for joining TJPW in the first place. Arai rejoiced in how fast time went by since her debut, and felt motivated by the loss, admiring the strength of her opponents and promising to surpass them in the future. She finds peace in the fact that she never gave up in the end, something Maki Itoh thought she would when she debuted two years ago. Itoh is amazed by Arai proving her wrong.

As Miyu Yamashita is on her United States tour, the idea of Itoh and Arai joining forces regularly in the meantime was brought up, something that SKE48’s Team K2 member felt excited about. Arai is followed by colleague Shiori Aoki, who made her TJPW debut as a referee last month. Are idols taking over for good?
