United Empire Implodes at NJPW Power Struggle, Callum Newman Wants Will Ospreay at Wrestle Kingdom

By: Noah Leatherland

NJPW Power Struggle saw Callum Newman and Will Ospreay go from teaming together to brawling with one another. After missing out on the IWGP Tag Team Championships, Newman sprung an attack on Ospreay and challenged him to a match in the Tokyo Dome.

Newman and Ospreay presented a united front as they entered the Hiroshima Sun Plaza, taking on the Knockout Brothers for the IWGP Tag Team Championships. Throughout the match, Newman continually tried to cheat with the help of Zane Jay at ringside. However, Ospreay stopped every attempt he could, going so far as to knock Jay off the ring apron. The two partners came very close to fighting each other in the middle of the match, with Ospreay elbowing Newman in an attempt to get his head right. Their bubbling tensions interrupted only by their opponents.

Eventually, Newman was able to use a weapon, swinging a chair, narrowly missing Ospreay and striking OSKAR in the back. The referee saw the attack and decided to disqualify Newman. As such, Yuto-Ice and OSKAR retained the tag belts.

Newman and Ospreay went at each other after the bell, needing to be separated by other members of the United Empire. The chaos saw Newman strike Francesco Akira with a Kiss the Crown before he and Ospreay were ultimately separated.

Taking the microphone, Newman decided it was time to finally end this United Empire turmoil. He challenged Ospreay to a match at the Tokyo Dome.

Ospreay did not have a chance to respond before Newman left, but confirmed that they will face off in his backstage comments. With Ospreay being the reigning AEW World Champion, it is yet to be seen if this high profile singles bout will have any championship stipulations involved.
