NJPW rolled into Fukushima for the fourth night of World Tag League action, with the B Block taking centre stage. While still in the early stages of the tournament, two teams now sit at the top of B Block.
The night’s league action started with the United Empire’s Callum Newman and Great-O-Khan getting their first points on the board, at the expense of Monster Sauce, Alex Zayne and Lance Archer. Then, the duo of David Finlay and Hiromu Takahashi leapfrogged the competition and launched themselves into the top spot. They gained two points by besting El Phantasmo and Hiroshi Tanahashi, setting themselves up nicely with four points at the top of the block.
B Block also contains the reigning IWGP Tag Team Champions, the Knockout Brothers. After losing their first round match to Finlay and Takahashi, their bad luck carried on into Fukushima. The champions lost their second match on the bounce. House of Torture representatives SANADA and Ren Narita claimed the win, with a few underhanded tactics helping them secure the points.
The night’s main event saw ZSJ and Ryohei Oiwa take on Shota Umino and Yuya Uemura. In the longest match of the tournament so far, the two sides clashed for a touch over 23 minutes. In the end, it was the former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion and his TMDK stablemate that claimed victory. Following the match, a ZSJ made a confident proclamation about TMDK’s tournament prospects:
Tag team wrestling is bloody brilliant. All thanks to Roy. Listen up. I’m a three-time IWGP Tag Team Champion. But there’s one thing I haven’t achieved yet. Winning the “WORLD TAG LEAGUE”! It’s the only league tournament TMDK haven’t conquered. We’ve won every other one. And I absolutely love league tournaments.
