Suzume Wins Tokyo Princess Cup, Challenges Yuki Arai at TJPW Wrestle Princess VII

By: Noah Leatherland

TJPW were back in Korakuen Hall for the grand final of this year’s Tokyo Princess Cup tournament. After just over a month of competition, the International Princess Champion, Suzume, emerged as the victor, holding the trophy aloft.

Suzume came up against a fellow champion in the main event, one half of the Princess Tag Team Champions, Rika Tatsumi. It was the fiercest battle of either woman’s tournament campaign, becoming the longest match of the Cup as they battled for just over 20 minutes for the Korakuen crowd. In the end, it was Suzume who claimed victory, putting Tatsumi away with a springboard Ring a Bell cutter.

Taking the microphone after the bout, Suzume lovingly addressed her fallen opponent:

Rika, I’ve gotten stronger! I’ve always looked up to how you live life to the fullest, and now that I’ve gone all out against you like this—I’m sure you went all out against me too, and that makes me happy. I’m never letting go of the term ‘natural enemy’ that you gave me, Rika! I’ll always be your natural enemy, so be prepared!

Suzume then called Yuki Arai into the ring, who promptly appeared and stepped between the ropes. After Arai congratulated Suzume on her tournament victory, she did not waste her time making her championship intentions known:

I’ve always thought that Yuki-chan, holding that belt, was like the brightest star in Tokyo Women’s Wrestling. But at this very moment today, even though I’m a mess, I’m confident I’m shining brighter than anyone else. I’ll keep moving forward as the International Princess Champion. But I can’t give up on my dream of becoming the Princess of Princesses either. So, with that belt on the line, please give me a title match—now that I’ve won this tournament.

Though Arai was complimentary to Suzume, she affirmed that her own drive would not be outdone:

Suzume-san, I’ve seen everything—the way you’ve been shining brighter and brighter this summer as you’ve raced around the ring, and the way you’ve charged through this tournament while embracing your deep love for Tokyo Women’s Pro Wrestling. I want to face a Suzume like that, and I want to bring my own passion for Tokyo Women’s Pro Wrestling—a passion that won’t be outdone by Suzume’s—and my love for this ring right here into the match. Right now, I want to take that on against Suzume. So, let’s face off at the next big match on October 3rd at the Ota City General Gymnasium! I look forward to it.

Arai then exited, giving Suzume the chance to leave the fans in Korakuen Hall and those watching at home a final message from the heart to close the show:

The Ota Ward event is set! On a personal note, the day after tomorrow marks my 7th anniversary—my 7th anniversary since my debut. Before I discovered pro wrestling, I used to think that dreams were something you had to hold onto since you were little. I thought I’d never get to experience one myself. But when I found Tokyo Women’s Pro Wrestling, they taught me that it’s okay to have dreams no matter what age you’re at, and it’s okay to have as many as you want. From here on out, I plan to be ambitious and go after absolutely everything I want and everything I want to do. And here at Tokyo Women’s Pro Wrestling, each wrestler’s dreams are overflowing. I also want to support the dreams of everyone here today and everyone watching the livestream. So, please continue to chase your dreams together with all of us at Tokyo Women’s Pro Wrestling!
