STARDOM Makes Partnership with CMLL Official, Taro Okada Comments

By: Noah Leatherland

STARDOM has announced an official working relationship with lucha libre organization CMLL. The collaboration was revealed on CMLL’s news show, Informa, with STARDOM president Taro Okada there to speak on the new partnership.

Okada sat with the head of CMLL, Lutteroth Lameli, to discuss what the future has in store now that the two promotions have entered an official partnership. They were also joined by Kounosuke Izui of Japanese magazine Lady’s Ring, a man credited with helping to bring the two promotions together. Okada outlined the goals of the partnership, stating:

First, our initial goal is to elevate the level of wrestling, of lucha, for both sides by facilitating an exchange of wrestlers between CMLL and STARDOM. Next, by having CMLL and STARDOM collaborate on something together, we aim to steadily raise the status of women’s pro-wrestling, women’s lucha, worldwide and create an even larger movement.

At present, Hazuki holds the CMLL-Japan Women’s Championship, a title that has existed in the joshi scene for quite a while now. She defeated her tag team partner Koguma for the belt on October 11th. Hazuki and Koguma are currently in Mexico on tour with CMLL where they have enjoyed a winning streak in tag matches together. The duo are set to represent STARDOM in the International Women’s Grand Prix on October 24th. Okada spoke on the success Hazuki and Koguma have enjoyed in Mexico, and on their involvement in the Grand Prix:

Both of them have long careers in STARDOM, and we sent them to this CMLL ring with confidence. And I believe they have earned the recognition of everyone. In the Grand Prix, I expect them to aim for victory as the first Japanese women in history to win it.

Hazuki and Koguma will team up with fellow international stars Shoko Nakajima, Mina Shirakawa, Thekla, Kanji, Diamante, Julia Hart and Skye Blue. The all-star team are set to take on a CMLL contingent made up of La Catalina, Olympia, Skadi, Persephone, Zeuxis, Reyna Isis, India Sioux, Lluvia and La Jarochita.
